Is that a(nother) Gotoh 201B-4 bridge I see before me?
I'm a Schaller bridge fan myself. Looks great though. Did you really need the extra tree or was it a "I'll just stick this here for no reason" thing.

The shaft of the Schaller tuners are longer than the originals, with insufficient break angle off the nut. The tree fixed it. (I'll always know it's mine).

Couldn't you just leave the strings longer, and cause more wraps, increasing the break angle? (maybe I'm missing something)
With a pair of headphones and on a Focusrite Scarlett Solo the output seems to be a bit louder than the originals especially the bridge pup.
Hi . I´m new in here, with a black Jag SS ordered, waiting to be in stock (more than a month out of stock in Europe). So I think in September I´ll post a photo of my first SS (I now have a Ibanez SR500).

About the magnet mod, it costs me twice the shipping to Spain than the magnet itself. $25 , so in that prices, I think I´ll change the J pickup for a Entwistle JBXN or similar. I can´t find a DP126 J single, without buying the complete set.

Hi arloko, you're going to love your new bass. I fitted a Seymour Duncan SJB-2B BLK (currently €69 at thomann.es or €71.21 on eBay.es with free postage) to mine. I also put a SPB2 (€80 Thomann/€78.58 eBay.es) on and it's a whole new instrument. Entwhistle are a good brand (British of course ) in fact I've just bought a Jazz Bass fitted with them.
If you can afford to change both pickups that's the way I would go, so you have a matched pair that were probably designed to work together. Other people will have equally valid and completely different opinions.
About the bridge, again, I can only tell you what I did, but the Gotoh 201-B 4B (eBay again €58.37 ) is a perfect fit for the Jag. I know several other people here have used that model too.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll wait to hear the stock pickups to take a decision. I'm starting to take bass lessons, at 44, so for me there is no big differences. Same for the strings, Elixir is my fav brand, but they're expensive,so I'll buy some of the thread favorites
Damn I've seen there's a Gotoh 201B Black, and a Cosmo Black. I'd like to change all parts into Black, but little by little. Screws, Bridge, tuners... And now I'll have to choose between Black and Cosmo? OMG
I love the look of Hipshot Kickass, but the golden pieces. Gold is not Black XD
It seems my Jag will take a long time to arrive. Musicstore.de nor Thomann have stock right now. Keep waiting. Have mine paid, so I'll have it, sooner or later.
keep the stock pickups for a while and seriously consider changing just the strings. The P pickup is quite good on the jag SS, the bridge can add color, esp with a magnet mod. If I were to mod the electronics I would probably consider an isolation switch to completely remove the bridge pickup from the cicuit. Really it's not necessary and that's just me liking the sound a pure P can give.
Agree. I'm using only the P pick up. The bridge pu just doesn't sound good to me. Couldn't the "jazz" pick up be bypassed by soldering together the two wires connected to the pick up (completing a circuit but not using it)?

No, the problem isn't really the pickup, but the Volume pot and how it drags down the signal when using only one pickup. I have replaced one pot with one with a pull switch which breaks the connection to the J-pup and its volume pot. The result is a more powerful sounding P-pup.
Can someone please tell me what the build and or quality difference is between the Red, Black, Silver versus the Sunburst. From my understanding the Sunburst was only available with the Combo pack, which was only made for a short period of time. TIA
