Squier Jazz bass wiring HELP!! (pics)

I need help with my Squier Precision Jazz bass special (5 string with J pickups)

i was trying to put this new control guard on because my old pickguard was broken and replacements are hard to find.

in the process i ripped a wire and i dont know where it goes to. i am an electronics n00b so i am not sure what to do!

lol i really dunno how to copper shield. wanna give me some tips?

The control plate is metal, and thus doesn't need any shielding, however, hypothetically if it did, those little ungrounded squares would not do anything at all. You would have to cover the entire plate and then ground the tape.

I see that you just laid down copper tape on part of the bottom of the control cavity, and left it "floating" with no ground point. That is not going to do anything at all.

The goal with shielding is to create a faraday cage around the components to ground out any noise.

You want to cover the entire cavity with copper tape, making sure that every piece is interconnected at 0 ohms continuity, and then make sure that it gets grounded to the control plate.

In the end, the pots and everything should be completely enclosed by the copper tape.

Also, you are going to want to shield the pickup cavities as well, not just the control cavity.

i tried to resolder the wires back to the pot, but still did not get any sound. would this have anything to do with the copper tape or is it just some other wiring issue?

Hmm, well, first off make sure that the copper tape squares on the control plate are not touching the pot's terminals or anything.
You should pretty much just pull them off actually.
