There is one thing I do to tune in a short scale bass. When you tune the 3rd and 4th strings, don't do it at the air, do it at the 5th fret.
Looks like the short scale is inperfect, so tuning on the 5th fret (3rd and 4t strings) makes all strings to stay in tune on fret 3 to nine. Try it, and then tell us how it was. I have and had several short scale basses and did this with good result.

I don't know what happened with your bass neck. Did you tuned tha bass down before move the truss rod? May be it was just bad build and it was working fine until then.
I had the bass for quite a while and adjusted the truss rod a few times. Then I tried some lighter gauge strings and had some fret buzz on open strings so I loosened the rod (or so I thought) but I couldn't get rid of the buzz so I took the bass to a luthier for a pro set up. He called me the next day to tell me that the truss rod had stripped. Then we started getting warmer weather and the action became a mile high. That's why I sold the body.
And yeah, I always de-tune when I mess with the truss rod or saddles.
Just bad luck Agent. That black Vista MM on the Bay seems like it is priced very reasonably. Would be a good replacement for yours!
Hey, i was thinking what neck shape Musicmaster bass have? I was google on it and found webpages that say neck profile is"C-shape", so that same as Jazz Basses? And Percision basses have "U-shape"?

Sign me up. Bought this on ebay last week for $220, still waiting for it to arrive though. I was gonna order a tort guard from Jeannie pickguards. Any one have any experience with them? Also is anybody using La Bella Mustang Flats for this bass? If so do they sound.

Thanks guys, the bass plays great. A lot more versatile than I was expecting. I have been playing with a squier 50's P bass with a single coil and the vista seems brighter.

Most short scales have more low end and are less bright than long scale basses.
I would guess the difference he is experiencing is more related to set up and strings.
