Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

If any of you have an original pickup for sell I'm looking for one, because mine was damaged by a bad amp. First I tryied rewiring it, but couldn't get the same tone, so I replaced it with and AERO copy (custom made starting from the Vista Tone dimension) but isn't the same. I want the original back !

Hello iguana,
I´m not sure, but I believe, that the original PU used by Squier in the MM Bass is a Seymore Duncan SCPB-3!
I use this PU in my 1971 Telecaster Bass and it looks like the same in the MM Bass!
The pole-pieces and the bobins are equal and have the same measurements, both have a DC-Resistance from 11,8 kOhm.
I think, it´s the same PickUp!

Hi nomadx. All the SCPB pickups are for long scale, so the string spacing in diferent. That's why is so dificult to find a replacement. Actualy, the Vista Tone pickup is exactly a SCPB-1 pickup with a smaller string spacing, all the other dimensions are the same.

Here you can see how the SCPB fits in a MM

I don't know too much about La Bella, never used 'em, and I'm rather biased about D'Addario strings (been a fan for about 20+ years). I will say that the Fender flats, if you cut them down to size, are pretty good. Not as bright as D'Addario, but still "boomy" and "thumpy" as flatwounds go. Again, just my experience.

I paid $200 for mine back in '09 off of fleabay, and it was well loved with a few chips and dings. Every so often I check the 'bay, and in the past few years I've seen them get as high as $500. I think you got yours for a great price.

Agent77, I'm sorry to hear about you bass neck. That really sucks. Seeing that Squier, despite being a part of Fender, seems to not like thier stuff work with Fender. Probably to prevent knock-offs, but still an inconvenience. Hope you get it up and running soon.

This one doesn't work neither, because Fender and Squier basses have diferent pickguards. The one on the Squier is bigger to fit the Vista Tone pickup, and the two holes to hold the pickup are farther apart. Believe me, I tried everything. Finally I bought custom pickups from AERO matching the Vista Tone design, but the sound is not the same (not bad, but not the same).

Sorry iguana, but I think you´re not right, at least in my case. I just measured the distance between the middle of the outside magnetpoles and both, at each pickup (scpb-3 and vista tone) is the same: 5,5 cm.
So there is no different spacing between short or longscale, I believe, that they (Squier) used the Duncan Pickups for the Musicmaster Bass.

Question 1: Have your MM Vista Series a serial number on the neck plate?

Question 2: How much you bass weight? (in Kg)

Why im asking these questions? I knew two king of Squier MM Vista Series, the one with the serial number on the neck plate (the heavy ones), and the one without the number (the light ones).

I'm not sure about this "rule", but at least I saw, touched, or owned, four of these basses and all of them followed this rule.

Well, I think yes, on both bass-guitars.
Are there any aftermarket replacement bridges for the MM bass available? I think not.
I have a picture of my guitar a few posts earlier here, there you may look.
Mine is the version with the serial-number stamped on the neckplate.
I don´t know the weight of the guitar, but it is not heavy, but it´s too small to make a direct compare to my standard bassguitars, I think it might weight about (less) 3 kg.

I think I noticed another difference between various Squier Musicmaster Basses - there are two kind of tuner used, one version with a "small" plate and another version with a big plate - the latter ones are fastened a little bit diagonally at the head (so as mine has!) and these machines are nickel plated, the smaller version is matched straight and has a chromed finish.

Hi nomadx, I was looking the picture of your bass, it looks amazing, love that colour. I changed the knobs on mine too. I gave the original ones to a friend who was building a Telecaster guitar. About the tuners, I never saw difference about design, but you are right about the finish, mine are nickel plated.

About the bridge, I saw some Fender MM with a badass bridge or any other long scale bridge installed. This way you could use a SCPB pickup, BUT 1st and 4th strings will be at the edge of the neck (very unconfortable to play).

I think the best way to weight the bass is, weight yourself without the bass, and then with the bass.

My MusicMaster has the original Vista Tone pickup and serial number on the neck plate. From the outside edge of the top and bottom pole pieces it measures slightly under 59mm. From center of the outside pole pieces it's 52mm. My strings don't lineup exactly center over the pole pieces. But since they are large, the strings are still are over the them
