That's why we had him sign it at the time. Of course, the Vista is way better quality than that crap model of his (well Squier makes it, not him). If you've ever seen Fall Out Boy live they go through a bunch as they break during the set. One show we saw it was Pete's birthday and Mark Hoppus took one and chucked it into the water. Pretty funny.

Weird! He went through a bunch of basses, or was swapping them out because he was breaking a lot of strings? I just checked out the specs on his signature bass and it seems quite a bit overpriced for what it is IMO.
The basses so poorly made. It wasn't strings. Have t believe it was electronic problems
#66 brought back to life somewhat. Cleaned up, new strings (medium scale Chromes - fit perfect), new knobs. Plays like a dream ,sounds like thunder!

I might have to give one of these puppies a try again... especially in that color! They're getting so rare now though my chances of finding one are getting slimmer.
I could just not get mine to intonate right. It also had some weird overtones that seemed to clash with my band at the time, but that could have been the strings I had on it too. I really liked the output and the deepness of the short scale which would actually work well for what I am doing now... I'll definitely have to keep my eyes peeled for one.
My Vistas are all strung with different sets. It's a great way to see how big of a difference strings make.
Blue: D'Addario EXL170S Nickel Wound
Black: D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound
White: D'Addario Chromes
Pink: D'Addario ENR71S Half Rounds
La Bella makes flats in short, medium and long scale. Be careful – they tend to break if you angle them too much (like stringing through the body) But …
La Bella makes flats especially for mustangs. Regular short scales won't fit if you string through the body.
Thomastik short scale strings are a bit longer and fit.
Hello everyone, I'm pretty late to this particular party - but it's better late than never I guess!
Got my Squier Musicmaster brand new in 1997 - it was my first bass. Always loved the way it played, but found it severely lacking in output (way quieter than any other basses I've owned/played) any remedy for that?
I was toying with replacing the pickup altogether, any suggestions? (I'd rather get the original working better if it's at all possible)
Nice to see the other colours that were available, I'd only ever seen 'em like mine. Is kinda strange that these are somewhat rare and sought after nowadays!

I have a couple different toys to shake things up. I've used a Sansamp almost as long as I've played bass. My current version is the three-switch programmable version. Works well for balancing output between different instruments. I also more recently acquired a Line 6 HX Effects and it is a sweet toy that can do just about anything you'd want.

Super cool you are the original owner. I think most, if not all, of us aren't.
Have you tried the EP Booster? I swapped out by Sansamp for it and leave it on all the time pretty close to zero. Don't get me wrong, they're two totally different beasts. But IMO the EP has some kind of voodoo magic in it that makes everything come alive. I can't explain it, but I think it adds a little compression.
Thanks! That's pretty cool. I bought it (as new) in a guitar shop in Chester (UK) definitely sometime in 1997. Was there only a limited number made? I'll get the serial number for it as soon as I can & more pics. I'll need to get it out of the closet and clean it up! My nephew had it the best part of a decade..
