Hi, again, sorry to bother, but your wiring seems, different from the one in german, specifically the cap position?

I think the lower configuration tends to work out better for both electronic noise and volume decrease as you roll off the tone. At least that's what I've read. I've wired dozens of P -types and always ground the cap instead of sending it back to the volume pot.

Sadly no. As it is a musicmaster bass copy, I do have a certain sympathy for it, but the price is way to high for a, I presume, made in indonesia or china instrument. And I do not really like the headstock...

I've played a few Eatswoods and I didn't have any issues with the quality. I've been GASing over an Eastwood Map Bass for a couple years. I've got a $5 a week envelope saving up for one.

Hi, thank you very much, but yesterday I was anxious, and soldered as the others, but it is not to dificult to change (but I left the cap's pins kind of short).

I think it is functionally the same. In the first schematic the cap is first, then the pot, in the second one the other way round. The effect should be identical.
The first one is more economical: you spare the piece of wire between vol and tone pot.

Hi, Yesssss, and now it sounds great, zero hum or noise (with low vol in Roland microcube), just some fret leveling, polishing, fret ends shaping and dressing, and fingerboard edges rounded, as well as the setup, action: .011- .012, high e: 5/64 - low E and others: 6/64, needs intonation, the missing neck screw and final cleaning, but

If I had a signature guitar I'd only want my logo on the neck plate, nothing so obvious. Of course, Sting is the worst offender with the fret marker.

I agree this is over-priced. I own a Hi Flyer and a Newport, and both are decent quality and play well, but are several hundred dollars less expensive.

So, it must have been made in early 70's...
This was my first bass learning bass... Bought a Yamaha 30 w combo -- and drove any neighbors I had crazy from then on!!
First song in a jam was "Sweet Home Alabama,"
First song I learned, taught to me by a keyboard player, who taught me about progressions, was the Stones', "Live With Me"... still one of my favorite songs to play!
Now I see it is a vintage instrument... Who'd a thunk!!
I will have to get it out and take a pic of it and post...

Hey!

I bought my Musicmaster Vista in 2020 (inspired by this thread of course) but I found the sound a bit too trebly and metallic for my taste. I was expecting a more p-bass like tone. Strings are probably a part of the issue and I have set of d'addario chrome flats that I will try next.

The bass is quite noisy so I figured I'd improve shielding. When I took a look under the hood I saw that the wiring does not look original. Also the pots and cap look different compared to photos on this thread, theres a piece of pick guard under the pick up holding the screws and the wiring and soldering looks shoddy. (The ground wire broke off while I was working on the shielding).

Has anybody had similar issues with the tone? Could the wiring/non-original electronics affect the tone?

Does someone have a simple recording of a vista MM with chromes? I would love to compare the tone when i get mine up and running again.

Congratulations Hakim for your buy! The bass looks great.
I never had a P Bass, so I cannot compare both, but my MM Vista has a very powerful sound, because of the pickup, which appears to be "quarterpoundy". It has a brilliance, but not harsh or thin.
I would re-solder the electronics first, to get these properly working. If the bass still sounds overly trebly for you after changing to flatwounds, you could try to alter the tone pot for a 100k and a 100nF cap. This combination may damp the highs a bit too much, but just in case. Just with the variation of the values of tone pot and cap you can achieve a wider variance in tone. Same applies to the strings. There is a thread here concerning the roundwoundness of flatwound strings, especially the treble content of the different brands.
The Thomastik Infeld JF324 for example are very smooth sounding flatwounds.
PS: and my MM Vista is definitely not noisy, although I have not changed anything (as opposed to my usual habits), one of my two stock instruments.

One of my Vista MusicMasters was also very trebly and metallic. It turned out the pickup was shot. I had to replace it. Yours may not be the same problem and perhaps proper wiring can fix it.

Very nice looking bass. Hopefully your issues are not pickup-related but due to the pots, cap, grounding, and string choices. I have Chromes on my black one and Dunlops on my white one. (No samples though.) Both deliver a smooth bass tone without too much brightness. I can't tell from the picture, but you should check to see that both pots are 250k and the cap should be .047. I would suggest a .1 cap if you really want to darken the tone when rolling off. I've never tried a 100k pot, so I can't comment on the effect of that change.
