I want to join the club. Is this ok? Here is my modified Squier VM Jazz. I replaced all the Alpha pots with Japanese made pots, completely shielded the cavities with aluminum foil over conductive paint, did a better rewiring and star grounding, added original Fender bridge and pickup covers, thumbrest and knobs, and put on Dean Markley roundwound nickel. This bass is dead silent with lots of punch and growl.

Ill join! I got this for $100 6 months ago. I guess its from 1983-84. I recently put some flats on it. I don't like the tension of the set I put on it. I am going to try some fender rounds since I liked the way they sounded on American 08 P.

Absolutely wonderful basses - I've bought three Affinity Jazz V's in the last 3 months.
If owning a Squier is wrong, I don't wanna be right. Squier rules!

I believe the recent money allocations & special attention focused specifically on their bass guitar line reflect across their entire line. I can't speak about older Squier offerings, but the newer Squier products are absolutely fantastic. Mine are all 2007-2008 productions & they rock. Not one high or sharp fret, excellent nut work, and every one of my Affinity's can be setup to get a faster & lower action without fret buzz than my MIA Fender Deluxe Jazz 5. I'm gonna have to shim the neck on my MIA to get it to play as good as any one of my Squiers, an easy thing to do, but stilll... Squier is doing things right across the entire line, and it shows, IMO.

Can I join when I finish my project bass? It'll be a Squier P-Bass Special body with a VMJ fretless necck. Should be sweet! Say, can someone tell me if the bridge (jazz) pup on that P-Bass Special body is the long or short version? Gotta work out what pup to drop in it. Thanks.

Hi NorCal - did your SCN's drop right in, or did the pickup cavities require some routing to get them to fit? The reason I ask is that I have a set of SCN's I've bought for one of my Affinity 5's & they are just a tiny bit too long for the pickup cavities. I'm on hold until I can find my dremel tool (and the nerve to do it myself) or take it to the shop - wondering if your experience with the SCN's were the same?

the SCN's fit the routs on the bass, but the pickguard did not fit over the neck pickup,, i opened it up a little with small files, ( as i preferred to take a little more time & do it by hand, as opposed to making one slip with a dremmel & ruining the guard ) it only took about 20 min.
