I do two things when using a set-screw knob with a split shaft pot
1) fill the slot with a bit of cardboard (a business card folded over once and trimmed works well)
2) always align the screw with the split, not across it...
these two things keep the slot from collapsing causing the knob to come loose.

Yes, the pickguard will fit but it will have the extra clearance by the neck where you would adjust the truss rod on a fender, but the Squier ones are adjusted by the nut.

modified with Seymour Duncan Hot Jazz bridge and Quarter Pound neck pups and TI Flats...
It's aging very good...

wow what a beautiful finish!! Squiers have been downplayed in the past but honestly these basses were made in countries that were tight in QC. The materials just weren't up to snuff at times.
I don't have a bass but I do have a old Korean Squier II Stratocaster that has a beautiful white pearl flake paintjob but the body seems to be made of layered planks of wood
it sounds awesome though to this day
wow all these Squiers are making me think of checking out the new Classic Vibes series. Looks like Squier is really starting to make awesome instruments again

well thank God mine is not one of those lemons...sounds quite good and has a very slim an comfortable neck and fretboard...no flaws and no fret noise...I guess I was lucky then...
In the past I probably would never have checked out a "Squier" Thread...................I have mostly higher end stuff as I am getting older. Recently, I purchased a VM Squier to use for practice, but I never really bonded with it, so I sold the bass. I have since tried the Classic Vibe series................OMG!
I could not believe they were less than $300.00! I started out with the 50s P, then the 60s J, now I just got the 60s P..................I have all three for less than the cost of many MIA/CIJ ones! My CV 60s P is my main player right now...............More than the '08 MIA Fenders!!!!If you never checked out the Classic Vibe series, do yourself a favor!.................Even the electronics are decent, unlike past Squier guitars!
I own three Squires and I will have four within a week or two.
I must say, the Vintage Modified Series and Classic Vibe series are every bit as good as any Fender!
Just because something is less than $500.00 doesn't make it bad. All of my Squires I like better than any Fender I ever owned except for my Marcus Miller Jazz.

Hold on to that baby! It actually says Fender on the headstock! By right, it's actually a Fender. Very first time I ever saw one of those! Very rare I guess. Definitely a keeper!

Me too! Back when the pointy basses were the most sought after, the Squiers were available dirt cheap!
But, alas, I was influenced by a bunch of gear snobs back then...I was even ridiculed for buying my T 40! Which, like an idiot, I sold.....
That autograph is from the Bass player in the band "Otis Day and the Knights"..(Animal House)....Robert Cray...The guy sold out...I hear he plays a Stratocaster now.:scowl:
