Aah.. so exited! just bought a squier on ebay... my first one!

Here's my Squier Affinity P Bass that I bought for $100. I replaced the body with a slab p-bass style I made out of red oak and replaced the stock pickups with a set I made using neo magents and wound to 11.5K ohms using 43 gauge poly-coated wire.

Red Oak? Well, settle that age old debate here, how does it sound? It sure looks great!

Thanks. From my experience in building basses of various woods including pine, the wood doesn't make enough of a difference on solid body electric basses for anyone to honestly notice a difference. Really. I've put guitarists/bassists to the test.

As for the Squier, I used it on all four recordings on my band's MySpace page. You can hear it best (that P Bass hollow growl) on the song "Wait for You".

Who'd have thought that .7mm really makes that much of a difference but I really like the feel of the CV 60's PBass' neck. A very nice choice you've made.

Hi guys! Getting my new (and first) Squier Precision in a few days, and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of strings it might have? Are they good enough, og should I be thinking of replacing them once I get it?

Playing rock/punk style with a pick. Are there any string you would recommend for a P especially? Also play Drop D (if that even makes a difference).

Yup, and it is only funny when it is not your own bass......then it is an awesome sound!

Not that I take enjoyment from others misfortune......much...

i replace the strings as i buy the bass
something that complements a p-bass nicely are flatwounds
and if you go to drop D frequently (or all of the time) then a slightly heaver gauge may be needed
