Squier P Special re-build!

I have Bartolini's put into mine, but no soapbars. I'd be interested to hear the difference.

interesting. Those factory routes on the Special aren’t standard sizes. Did you have to modify the ears a little to fit them?

Nothing like putting a $200 set of pickups in a bass worth $100 is there? Bass plays phenomenal. Now it sounds like a million bucks.

I used a dremel to widen the routes a little and to open the pickguard up a tiny bit more. The stock pickups are IMO pretty terrible so this is a great change.

Pretty terrible? I don't know if I'd say that...The most awful pickups ever installed in a quality bass? Yes. They weren't even good 4 string pickups. Major fail by Fender for allowing that. No one was fooled.

Glad to hear you have the Barts. They make all the difference. I figured you had to route it a bit. I also have a DeArmond Pilot V. 35" scale and it makes the makes the Squier look wimpy which is hard to do. Also had terrible, awful bad 4 string units. Terrible, just absolutely awful weak preamp too. Swapped in Barts too and Tone Monster Preamp. Dropped in with zero modification. Weird. It kills now. Like a completely different bass. Sold on the Bartolini pickups now.

Ahhh, the dreaded "Squier Standard Blueprint" strikes again! Great mod-platforms…if you don't mind breaking out a Dremel and possibly a router! :banghead:
