Squier P Special re-build!

I call this the Squier P Special CV. I robbed the neck off of this bass to put on a much better bass. The Squier Special is, if you don't know, a full width 5 string with 19mm spacing like the Pro Tone V and the Modified Active J V. The Special was born with the absolute worst electronics. 4 string units in a 5 string. This resulted in a terribly weak B and G. Even for a 4 string, the pickups were abominable. In frustration I put the neck on another bass and stripped this one down. Sat on the shelf for two years. I came across a Mighty Mite neck that is supposedly a "fender licensed neck" for another project. Only issue with that is that Fender, to my knowledge, has never built a 3" heel bass like the 3 I mentioned above. Only Squier. Whatever. Then I bought these great Barts from DrZ on here and i did my first route job fitting them. These are PROPER pickups. The tone is fabulous. I'm going to have a new pickgaurd cut too because I just don't like the way this cheap guard looks surrounding some Bartolini pickups. Probably also going to go active eventually, but I like it just fine passive. The routes came out good....I about had a panic attack doing it. Let me know what you guys think!

I can't remember the last time I saw a Squier Standard Precision V, stock or modified. Nice!
I haven’t quite decided yet. With that color you can get away with about anything. But I’m thinking probably black pearloid.
I think that'd look pretty damn sharp!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V could handle that neck. The couple I tried to tinker with had a neck pocket that was quite considerable.

They aren't as uncommon as you'd think, but they are unusual in that they don't have traditional pickup arrangements. I have 3 Pro Tone Squiers from the 90s. All the same way. Soapbar pickups. Two of them. Not like a split P.

The Active V, the P special and the Pro Tones all have interchangeable necks.

I agree. If you decide to go active, the John East pre with the Barts are fantastic. I have the P25C's with a 3 band East preamp and it just kills. IMO. Nice Job on the install, turned out great. Did you buy a template or make your own?

Thanks for the advice! I bought a template from bestbassgear.com. They have a lot of cool stuff. It turned out really good. The top route isn't great, but that was my practice route since it's covered...meh. The lower route really came out better than I expected. I had a little trouble on the top right corner but I managed to straighten it out with a dremel and a steady hand. Thanks for the compliment!
