Hi TBers,
I'm having fun with my recently acquired Squier CV 60's Precision. I've mostly played it through my Sansamp Fly Rig direct into my interface for home recording. It's done well for this application, but today I had the chance to play it loud my Mesa Walkabout Scout.* It doesn't really sound that good. I know that's v.subjective and all, but, the Squier seems to be "hot" which has been just fine through the Sansamp but through the Mesa with lots of volume it's really too sensitive (or is it me, har har). In fact, I switched the Mesa to "active" and the Squier is considerably easier to play.
For reference, my personal reference is my EBMM Sterling through the Mesa and that's a lovely combination with lots of flexibility at loud volumes. Also, I have a v.recently acuired J-bass with passive DiMarzio's and that also sounds good: very warm and punchy through the Mesa (just as I figure it should).
Is this just a P-bass thing? Or a Squier "hot" pickups thing? Or I should just go easy with the gain? Any observations from TBers who might have experience with a similar combo is appreciated!
*Loud is relative. In this case, it means gain at about 1:30 and master volume at 12:00. Any more than that and the windows in my old house start to rattle just a bit too much for comfort.
