ahh there's always a few lemons with mass produced basses, all the ones I've seen were perfect to me, including the reviews I've seen, and I've watched a lot of them, there's a chance you just got a poor one. Look up Johnny Lee Long on youtube, he's a Luthier and he did a full rundown of the 6er (here ). By the way that's not me in the video, he just happened to be the first player to do a video with one in a recorded setting. In terms of the action, I think it's subjective, you know what bass players are like wth stuff like that lol.

Squier Squire 6 string Affinity Jazz!

Gold control plate, gold screws for the pick guard and green knobs installed. Note for anyone wanting to swap out the control plate. I bought a genuine Fender one and the size is not identical to the stock one. Gold one was a tiny bit longer and I had to shave off 2-3mm off the pick guard where they meet to fit, and the top part is not as wide so the alignment of the pick guard and plate doesn’t match. That can be fixed though by slimming the line on the pick guard to line up to the line of the plate (haven’t done that part yet as I plan to eventually make a guard out of wood in the summer)
And yes I know I haven’t removed the plastic off the guard yet. Waiting until I’m done mucking around in that area haha.

Yeah those lined up pretty well once the pick guard was trimmed down. The top where it widens out was just a tad longer and not as wide as the stock one. The width where it widens out at the top on the stock one must be made specifically for the 6 string and the wider pick guard which could explain why the new one wasn’t as wide.
I had a chance to play one at my local Long & MacQuade earlier today. The string spacing is way too big for my tiny fingers but the back of the neck felt great, very smooth, and plugged in, yep, it indeed sounds like a Jazz Bass, which means it always sounds good. The only flaw in this specific bass was that the knob for the bridge volume was so loose it was going 360-degrees when you turned it, so I had the staff notified. Overall I think this will be a great bass for beginners on the 6'er, and still a very pleasant surprise for the Squier roster.
Finished with all the mods. Tort Pickguard from planet pickguard, 920D concentric plate with series parallel switch and the hipshot style A .669" (17mm) bridge. The one change you can't tell from the picture is that I had stainless steel vintage size frets installed. And while I had the frets off, I had the radius change from 12 to 20. It's a lot easier to do string crossing now. The only thing I'd change now is possibly a matching headstock but I don't think that's going to happen. Now this thing plays and sounds like a dream. it's my poor man's Fender Steve Bailey fretted signature model
ooohhh that's a looker, love the knobs as well. Did you do something to make the fretboard wood pop like that? the grain is pronounced
I think there was some sort of a dye or a finish on the fingerboard. When the radius was changed it brought it down to the bare wood. I did put some treatment (oil) on it but nothing that made her significantly darker. I also forgot to add that I shielded the bass.
Got one yesterday and I think the tuners are fine. Definitely getting used to it though. Action is ok but I plan to lower it bc it’s a little high for me (and also feels a little “spongy”). Looking forward to getting used to it though

The only thing I've felt compelled to change out is to add an active preamp. And I wasn't thinking the bass sounded bad, I was just curious how it would respond with a preamp. I put in the least expensive Audere preamp unit ($100) and I'm quite pleased with the results. Not only did it wake up the tone of the bass, but the C string sounds fuller to my ear. Also, I've not noticed it being noisy, but I play with both pups full 100% of the time. And admittedly, I haven't taken it out on a gig yet. I'm taking it as a spare on a run this weekend and I'm gonna pull it out during soundcheck.
While I'mhappy okay with the hardware, I'd like to see the tuning process be smoother. It feels like there's a lot more binding than usual going on when lowering the pitch of a string. It will get in tune, but the process takes longer if you tune a tad high and have to drop down and start over. I've put graphite in the nut slots and the underside of the tension bar, but it's still annoying. I may just have to get used to that.

I played my first gig on mine last night after having it since last year. Sounded amazing! Was a little heavier than I thought, but balanced well on a wide Planet Waves strap that locked it in position. It stays in tune, and that's all I care about, with regard to the tuners.
After doing some setup work the action and feel are much better, but I’m having some issues with the low B. Everything sounds great but the B is pretty dull and lifeless. I know it’s a 34” scale but the feel is find, the sounds is just off. Y’all think it could be a dud string?
If you're talking about the strings that came with the bass... they are kinda iffy. On a 34-in scale b string I kind of like taper wounds. they seem to sound truer IMHO. maybe you could try one of those.

The B string on my Squier 6-string sounds pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised, actually.
Are those the strings that came on the bass? I've not been able to find out strings are supplied on those basses. Probably a nickel/nickel-plated string.
If you aren’t going to replace the whole set, maybe try a D'Addario nickel-wound .130 single string.
When I replace the set, it will be D'Addario. Either EXLs or Pro Steels.
I been mention about tint / finish found on Squier VM std Jazz bass fretboard while FMIC move from Rosewood to Laurel board many years ago. It can't get stain with the minwax wood finish stain maker at all.
Has anyone found a good alternative bridge? The mounting holes are on the opposite side of where the string travels, instead of inline like most others I’ve seen. Not really looking to shell out too much either.
After playing it more after a basic setup, I’m getting some isolated buzzing. After checking, there seems to be quite a few high spots on the frets. I’m really enjoying it, so I definitely see myself taking the time to address the frets and add a new bridge and nut

Was it a drop in replacement? Looking at the stock bridge, it doesn’t seem right to me that it would mount straight on and not shift the string spacing or alignment? Here is a picture of the bridge on mine
