On the site linked above it’s just listed as 4 ply tortoise shell. Their 4 ply vintage tortoise is a little redder.

Ordered one. Very close fit wise, just a couple holes slightly off, but you can't notice once everything is screwed down tight. For the price, you can't beat it. Looks amazing!! Highly recommended...

ok, I ordered a Hipshot KickAss bridge and a set of Dunlop SS Flats 45-125 for my VMP5. I usually get Hipshot vintage bridges, so I'm going out on a limb on this one Hopefully I won't have to use spacers between the bridge and ball end on B and E strings anymore. With the Tonestyler, I'm looking forward to this.

On another note, has anyone replaced their neck with a VM Jaguar 5 rosewood neck? For some reason I wish my VMP5 had a rosewood neck. I'm probably just old school ...

Half inch.

3/8” is for import sealed tuners (ie; Ibanez).

Just picked one of these up and aside from being VERY impressed with the quality, I'm curious as to whether this is the stock pickup:

There are no markings on the pickup at all.
It has cloth pushback wire.
Registers 10.09k for DCR.

This pot had a really bad solder job on it, so I wasn't sure if someone replaced it at some point:

I guess what has me a little confused is the fact that I've never seen a stock Squier pickup with cloth wire, nor a non-ceramic pickup. This looks like alnico pickup slugs as well.

That said, there aren't a lot of replacements for these on the market:
Nordstrand uses plastic covered wire with the 3rd gray one.
Kloppmann is aged poles.
Fender's "08 American Std" or whatever also uses plastic wire.
Lindy Fralin doesn't tape around the windings (this one does).

So yeah... hoping someone may shed some light for me here. THANKS!

Just checked inside mine, and the stock pickup has cloth wires. It's got the same shielded red and green wires between the pots as well. Yours may have just been soldered on a Friday afternoon!

Same cloth pickup wire on mine, and the stock pickup is Alnico 5 and sounds absolutely great, just like a P bass should. No upgrade needed, only comes down to taste and whether you just want a different sound.

The aftermarket pickguard mod, discussed not to far back in this thread, however IS highly recommended, for a nicer looking tort, or parchment, or what have you… congrats on finding a white VMP5, lucky you!

Of all the things I'm seeing on this bass, the wiring seems to be the only iffy part.
Well, the PG may have lost its protective layer and turned out like this:

... but when a replacement can be had for $15-18, I will certainly not lose my cool.
The only problem is deciding which one because essentially, all but 3 of them would look great (IMO).

And yeah, the controls are an easy upgrade. CTS and Sprague are already in my stash, so why not?!?
