Back in the club with a 2015 sunburst I snagged off of Reverb last week. A bit of wear on this one but cleaned up nicely. The rounds it came with are fresh and punchy but would like this one with flats. Any suggestions? Not bad for $199...

Thanks, yes, that's why I jumped on it. At that price, I was willing to take the risk if was a dog. I took it completely apart and gave it a really good cleaning - hardware, body, pickguard, and neck. Previous owner was into the "devil's lettuce", since some parts smelled of resin, which I could see on the Lysol wipes! Most of the wear is at the bottom of the bass near the bridge, but you need to be close to see it. Otherwise, pretty darn clean. Truss works easily, sets ups very nicely, and it sounds great through my rig....really big! I did back off the D and G side of the pickup, since those strings were louder than the others. Really enjoying it right now

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. They really are amazing instruments.
I will say that I got a little crazy with mods, but it's a one of a kind that plays and sounds phenomenal.

That bridge pickup was given to me by a friend who got it from a warranty replacement (I think). It's an original Fender humbucker from the older P Deluxe V and Roscoe Beck V basses. Sounds great on its own and fantastic blended with the stock P pickup.
Tort PG is an original Squier P5 someone was selling a few years ago bc they wanted another color. I lucked out there!

That's a particularly nice grain match under the burst, as well.
I've seen a few that had rather unfortunate matches between the body pieces. If there's a big discontinuity in the area beside the E-string, it tends to really stand out.

Been after one for a while. Missed out on one recently as i stupidly tried to sell my 2015 VM Jazz V first, should've just bought it there and then noted them being so rare, but this one appeared online Thursday, i wasnt about to miss out. Loved my Jazz version but ive slowly realised i'm a P man, wanted a 5 string VMPV as i already have a 2010 Amber 4 string VM which is my go to bass.
Anyway, this one apparently only needs a new set of strings so will likely buy a set of Ernie Ball Slinky roundwounds 45-130. This is also a 2015. My search (for now, until i see something else i really want,) is complete. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Oly white is my favourite, and that one's got a nice bit of figure on the fingerboard. Sweet!
Looks very nice, opened, played, needs a new B and E string - will fit tomorrow. Weight is a lot lighter than my old equivalent Jazz VMV. Surprisingly so. This is lovely, very happy.
pickup sounds remarkably good, and after some adjustment is pretty even across all strings. Sounds like Alnico 5, and not overwound, in other words, sounds like a Fender P bass should!
Light weight, just a shade over 8 lbs on my scale!

5 string P bass is a new thing to me, after playing J type 5’s for 20+ years… and I am thinking of trying reverse P on this bass. Anyone know who in 2024 is making pick guards for this bass, including a reverse P option?
I've got the same Wilkinson. The alignment on mine isn't so bad that that the whole thing needs moving, but the threaded saddles help bring the G string in a bit from the fretboard edge.
You've done well there - mine's 9lb 2oz! Lightweight tuners have helped, and improved the neck balance a bit, but I'm still tempted to hog out some of the wood underneath the pickguard as well.
Really interested to hear how you get on. I've thought about doing the same - I understand it can help give the B string more definition and tonal balance with the others.
I found a direct fit pickguard on Amazon. It required zero modification and they have a ton of colors.

I just ordered one of the same type but different color (dark tort) from their eBay listing 2 days ago, in hopes it will fit OK. Hasn’t arrived yet but glad to know it should not require modification! At those prices and now that we know it’s a perfect fit maybe will try a color or 2 more… still no reverse P option, probably gonna have to commission a custom one somewhere for that. Getting no response from Pickguardian, probably use WD if/when.
The nut on my VMP5 is slightly narrower than the nut on my Affinity J5’s, yet the string spacing on the nut on the VMP5 is wider. The upshot being the G string is uncomfortably close to the fingerboard edge on the VMP5. So that’s something else to fix…
And if I am going to redrill the bridge holes to center it properly I’d really like to try one with adjustable string spacing, try to get closer to 18.5 mm spacing if the wide end of the neck will accommodate. Looking at the hipshot type A. We’ll see…

Parchment. I think it looks stellar with the white body. So much better than the tort it came with. And yeah, at $14, hard to beat. I’m tempted to get a black one just to have it.
