In my quest of searching for a "cheap" but good gigable bass, I discovered the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass. I was actually floored to hear how good it sounded and played after a good set up. It's got a PJ pup set up with a two band active EQ....actually, it's called an active bass boost with a standard tone control and two volume controls. The bass sounds so round and full that I've been using it exclusively on my 5 night gig....leaving my USA and MIM basses at home. Why I "cheap" bass? That's because Bourbon street and the rest of the French Quarter in New Orleans has turned into Dodge City. Even though I pack heat every night with my bass and avoid places I shouldn't be in, I still don't want to loose my life (first and foremost) and an expensive bass. If I have to give up a bass to a perp it might as well be a $199 bass. Anyway, I was more then pleasantly surprised how this bass has performed and how it continually pays my mortgage, insurance, kid's school and everything else in life. Kudos to Fender Squier!
