Squier VM Mustang Project...Pic Heavy

... a few thoughts and inquiries while looking/reading ... no channel routing!!, nice ... also I cant tell from the pics, is the bridge top load capable, or is it STB only ? ... speaking of bridge, 7 screws to hold the bridge on a 30" scale bass ... huh, they just use 3 on the MIA STB 34" counterparts ... ??

... very nice job, thanks for sharing ... did you by chance record the sound with stock gear, to get a comparable with the aftermarket?? ... thanks again

Thanks for checking out my thread tjh!
Yeah, it is only String through body. As for the bridge, yup 7 screws. Same as the Fender MIJ Mustang. That bridge isn't going anywhere
I didn't make a sound clip of the bass stock..But I will definitely make one after I finish my project. Here is a YT video that I found last night of a MIJ Mustang and my Mustang sounded pretty close in tone to it. The Virgins She's Expensive Bass Cover - YouTube

Update: :D

This morning the Luthier making my pick guard e-mailed me a few pics of wood that he had instock. I originally wanted a plain Maple pick guard but all the maple he has instock either has alot of flame or quilt ( I didn't want flame or quilt) So we decided that a Birdseye Maple that has minimal birdseye in it will look good. Since it is Birdseye, it bumped the price up $40..oh well..I'm sure it will look great once it is completed. I chose this piece of wood and he started it today.

Stay tuned...:bassist:

Oh, that'll be sweet!

Thank you..Hoping so

How thick is that wood?

Are you talking about the wood for the pick guard? It is just a white template layed over the block of wood that the Luthier is going to use..He just wanted to make sure I liked the placement of the grain on what will be my pick guard. It should end up being the same thickness as the original 3 ply pick guard. :)

Very Nice! I was thinking of picking up the same bass and changing the pots, pu's to a nordy and fender jazz knobs. Love me some black and maple:bassist:

Thank you 76! I think these Nordy's are going to sound great!
Got a set of Black pick guard screws and Black pickup screws..Hoping that that adds a nice touch..We will see :D

Nice bass - nice mods!
Can you put on flatwounds with a string-through bridge?

Thank you! Not to sure on the flatwound type that would work well with string through. I know there are a few brands that wont be so good for that. But I never really had any experience with flatwounds..sorry

Loving the birdseye pg. Definitely looking to be an awesome build so far.

Thanks, I cant wait to see it when it shows up :D

im gonna buy this bass, cant wait to see your one when its finished.

These Mustangs feel great..you wont be disappointed
