Squire P-Bass

Hello everyone, I just bought this squire P-bass, the bass needs alittle work, the tone and volume don’t work. The volume works but only goes from 10 straight to off. The bass is a 20th anniversary made in Indonesia squire made in 2002, I believe the serial means it’s a Cort bass,

Im curious about a few things and figured I’d ask, first is it bad for the strings to remove them and put them back on after repairing the bass. Second there’s a few cracks in the finish would this be a crack in the wood or just the finish I will take pictures. And my final question is about the colouring of the fingerboard, it’s rose wood but there’s a spot where the grain is light is this normal or would this be from something else. I plan on cleaning it up to its original state.

Thanks for the reply I actually like the way the fretboard looks.

ive got to change the tone pot and volume but debating on tossing a new bridge I’m looking at the Wilkinson brass bridge. Any suggestions
