Squire Pro tone precision V

Just got one of the best basses that I have ever had off CL yesterday. Did a 200 mile drive to Phoenix for it. It was just the P tone that I was looking for and it is a beautiful bass to behold on top of that. This type of quality in a "cheap" Korean bass is great. They are selling now for three to four times what they were new. even though it is 15 years old, the finish is still perfect, and the neck is straight as an arrow.

They are nice. I had one for a minute, but it had a really bad hum that I decided I could do without. I hope yours does not have that issue.

I would suggest changing the Volume and blend controls to a Volume/Volume set up.
Feels like it opens up the tone quite a bit. IMO

Good question. I remember seeing these in shops back in the day when they were offered new (I think the "pro tone" line only lasted a year or two), and I can't remember any color other than transparent red for these.

Red was the only color in the Precision V. I was told they only made one color to save money and put that savings into other parts of the bass?

Fender killed the Pro Tones because they were such high quality instruments and flying off the shelf......

This is correct. The pro tones are awesome basses.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think I recall the Bartolini CF5CBC (1.550" x 4.110") we're pretty close to the same size?

That seems like speculation to me. As great as the Pro-tones are reputed to be, the Pro-Tones that I saw at local music stores back in the day did anything but "fly off the shelf". They could be found NOS for years after their limited run, at least around here. I knew they had a great reputation, and I liked the ones I tried, but they were not exactly big sellers.

I don't think they flew off the shelf, but during the 1980's and early 1990's, Fender did have to put the kibosh on some import operations because their quality was getting too close to the Americans lineup , and it was hurting sales since the imports were so much cheaper. This is something I have heard several times from reputable sources.
