i have a chance to get a squire vintage modified 512 jazz. the neck looks like a geddy, thin with black block inlays. duncan designed pick ups. natural maple wood body with a black pickguard. whats yall opinion of this bass? something worth gettin or is it junk? pictures are at squires web sight. if i knew how to do it ide post the link.

i played one today at Guitar Center ...
i think it was listed at $ 279.00 U.S. , without case .
seems nice enough , not too heavy , neck seemed nice and smooth ...
it needed a set-up , i'm sure new strings would help ...
pretty decent sounding actually ...
overall , not too shabby .

A basic rule of thumb is that if it says Squier, it's generally garbage. But who knows, this may actually be worth your money. *shrug*
im usually not to fond of squire stuff myself. this feels and seems different for some reason. run through a gk and ampeg stack it actually sounded pretty good.
I picked one up and played it at Sam As(s)h the other day. Never made it as far as plugging it in. Just didn't do it for me. I own the original ( 74 Jbass w/ maple neck black blocks) so its hard to make a comparison. I also owned a Geddy Lee for almost a year and found that to be not the one either. I wanted to like this Squier but it just didn't feel substansial. Nice looking bass. If you like painted on blocks and binding.
