ss head for doom/stoner

I think tube amps are overrated for bass players - for guitar players they are more important. They are not essential for bassists. Just my opinion.

Now that you didn't listen to anyone and bought the Fender ;) you should figure out how many speaker cabinets you can safely drive, and get the maximum. I usually don't think 100 watts is enough for bass, but I've heard people say that with a lot of speakers working, 100 watts can do fine. You want as many big speaker cabinets as possible, especially with a lower powered amp. At least one 8x10 if possible, at the minimum. More if the Fender can handle it!

Why would they be more important for guitar than bass? I think it more depends on what kind of sound you want.

So i took the risk and bought the Bassman.
I also played through a GK 700RB on a 410 GK cab.
It was pretty damn loud but I didn't like it comparing to the tone of Bassman.
I played the B-man through a $200 215 PA monitor (Dibeisi DBS 5715 - 700w 8ohm, never heard that before) and the BAT Pharaoh and that was DOOM.
idk if i will regret this but i'm so pleased from what i get.

Guess that's that then.

Now for matching cabinets i guess i have to create a new thread! :P

The biggest cab with the most speakers. I'm talking an 8x10 or even 2. Maybe 2 2x15 cabinets. All of this is assuming that it can handle a 2ohm load (being a tube head, it should... right?)

You only have 100w to play with so you'll need to give it as much speaker area as possible to move as much air as possible.

i think that it can handle up to 4ohm.
i think i'm going for the two 215s case.

If it can handle a minimum of 4 ohms, then I don't think it'll be able to cope with two 215s, assuming that they're 4 ohms each. I've never encountered an 8ohm 215, anyway... you'd be running at 2 ohms which would be bad news.

In which case, I'd go for 2 410s or an 810.

My band had James Plotkin do our mastering. It was like $250, but then again, it was also one 38 minute track with different masters needed for digital, cassette, and vinyl.

You might want to ask around on the Stoner/Doom Bassist thread, over in the "Bassists" subforum. Helpful dudes there.

In response to the original post, I would say go with the Peavey.

Although, you really should look at the Sunn Concert or Coliseum bass heads. Solid states with great, heavy tone. (I would go with the Concert unless you have a 2-ohm speaker load for the Coliseum).

I gigged with GK 700 RB II for a long time and it's a great head, loud and aggressive when cranked up. However, doesn't really do that doom/stoner tone IMO. I miss that rounded low end and low mids and it can't really be eq-ed with the amp. I suggest you try Ashdown ABM line, it's what I went for after GK. Once you learn the eq (fairly easy), it's massive. Warmer than GK, more rounded tone and nice grind with the preamp tube. I'd still recommend GK NEO 12" cabs, they pair great with abm. YMMV
