ss head for doom/stoner

*newby first thread*
I know that lots of people would recommend a tube amp but the budget right now is low. i have some heads in my mind(***) and I'd like to hear your opinions. I 'd also like to say that i need one to stand next to a 120w of a guitar tube amp with pride. :D

so here's the list:
1. Ampeg PF-500(i heard that is kinda weak yet it comes to power)
2. TC Electronic BH500
3. Hartke LH500
4. Gallien Krueger RB 700-II
and some old guys:
5. Peavey Mark III (BH 400)
6. SWR Bass 350

The Hartke LH500 is more than enough to get the job done...and a good overdrive and or fuzz Pedal and you good to go...

Even the Older HA Models especially the Mosfet will get you there as well!

It's what i use in my group and we play Stoner/Doom/Sludge/Psychedelic type stuff

Plus they are plentiful and cheap!!

I have the GK 1001RB-II. It has a ton of clean headroom, which I prefer. But, I can also crank the pre (input vol) and boost while using the woofer control for volume levels and get quite a bit grit. I played through an Ampeg rig for almost 10 years. I can dial in Ampeg tone on my GK, but I couldn't get GK tone out of my Ampeg. I think my current setup is much more versatile.

Exactly how I feel about my GK 700RB-II!

So i took the risk and bought the Bassman.
I also played through a GK 700RB on a 410 GK cab.
It was pretty damn loud but I didn't like it comparing to the tone of Bassman.
I played the B-man through a $200 215 PA monitor (Dibeisi DBS 5715 - 700w 8ohm, never heard that before) and the BAT Pharaoh and that was DOOM.
idk if i will regret this but i'm so pleased from what i get.

I'd keep an eye out for any of the old Acoustic Control Corp heads. Those things are right up the stoner/doom alley.

Not to mention that if you put a full rig on stage, it has a visual presence, too. They are not for everyone, since they weigh plenty and take up space, but you can't beat 'em for bang for the buck. The power ratings on those are very, very deceptive. They are far more powerful than the rating would lead you to believe. The only problem is finding one in Europe.

I think tube amps are overrated for bass players - for guitar players they are more important. They are not essential for bassists. Just my opinion.

Now that you didn't listen to anyone and bought the Fender ;) you should figure out how many speaker cabinets you can safely drive, and get the maximum. I usually don't think 100 watts is enough for bass, but I've heard people say that with a lot of speakers working, 100 watts can do fine. You want as many big speaker cabinets as possible, especially with a lower powered amp. At least one 8x10 if possible, at the minimum. More if the Fender can handle it!
