SS vs Long scale 34"

I am looking at two bass guitars from Sterling BMM, one is the stingray ray24 the other stingray SS. Other than the scale and one being active the other passive, I really have not a clue. There isn't anywhere to try them that I have found. I live in a very secluded place. I have a viola and did try a fender P bass. I like the SS better mostly because my hands don't work so good. I like 50/60's style of the bass sound. So my question is which one would have the best bass sound. I'm on a fixed income now so can't afford the high dollar basses.
Any info or advice will be appreciated.

Different basses can sound different, the real difference between SS and 34 is how they feel, reach etc.
My short- scale has a humbucker and a P single coil, sounds nothing like my Jazz bass.
The main thing I look for in a bass is 20 frets and 38 mm nut width. That's where my comfort zone is.

Well, in usual TB fashion, im going to pick the one that you aren't asking about (though you did mention it)

I think based on what you said, a P bass would be your best bet.

If you don't want a "hi dollar bass", the mim fenders are like $800 (or less for used)

Or, even Squier makes P basses with quality that can be very good for much less than that. If you buy new, then you can return it if it has any flaws, and get a replacement, (that will hopefully be better.)

A P-Bass will definitely get you into that 50s-60s Bass sound. Way more than any EB Sterling or Stingray.

If you're more comfortable with the short scale, go for it. I've got one on order myself, due largely to my aging skeleton. The short Stingray is definitely one of the best lowish cost options. Check out the G&L Tribute Fallout as well. Just as nice, with maybe more of an 'old school' tone from its excellent MFD pickup.
