St. Patty's fight

Sounds wild! Only had a fight break out once. They never got up on the stage but they were right up to it. We just stood there telling them to get lost... They took it outside and we played on. It was ridiculous.

Had a guy harassing women all night, and driving them out. Harassed my female bandmate and got her ire. Came over to me and the world stopped as, in perfect slow motion, a wad of his spit landed on my mic, as he was screaming into it.

So the fight was me and him. He was drinking, I was not and it wasn't much of a fight. Mostly low body blows that no one saw, and him apologizing. I finally marched him out the door and gave him the bum's rush into the alley.

Bouncer said, "I could've done that."

I didn't reply.

Lots of others, but that was my favorite. I totally lost my mind on that guy. He totally had it coming.

We were playing at some local dive once about 20 years ago. The wife of a friend of mine walked up while we were on break and said "I think he's going to kill him!" meaning her husband was getting ready to throw down on some dude. About two minutes later, he comes back to our table, white as a sheet, and says "I think I killed him!". We all walked up toward the bar and there was this dude who was drunk all night laying there on the floor out cold with blood pouring from his forehead. An ambulance was called and the guy was taken away. Turns out he had been insulting my friend's wife all evening and my friend had told him to cut it out or pay the price. When the guy did it again, my friend punched him. Drunk dude spins around and his forehead hits the sharp corner of the bar. Both got barred from the bar for life. In twenty years of playing bars that's the only fight I have ever seen during the show. I have seen plenty of fights after the night was over though.

Another friend of mine was playing one night and some drunk dude comes up and gives him the finger. My friend reached out and grabbed the guys finger and bent it over. It was probably broken but the dude got the message and left.

We were playing at Filthy McNastys in OKC years ago when a fight broke out at the cocktail table in front of the stage. Guy 1 flies across table, fist first, to land a solid
blow on Guy 2. Big fight breaks out with too many to count jumping in. We were in the back end guitar solo of La Grange when it all went wild and just kept on jammin'
until it was all over.

I've got a couple. Get your popcorn..

About 10 or so years ago, the band I was in played a benefit party for a good friend of ours who recently had a preemie baby so everyone was pitching in to help. Great day. Loads of giveaways, killer crowd, sunny day. It was awesome.

Then it happened. A dude (under the influence of many things) came up and sucker-punched our lead singer. Dropped him like a stone. Past history it turned out. Guitarist jumps in (breaks hand in process), drummer jumps in (lays the dude out flat) - next thing you know it's a full bore brawl. Crappy way to end a great day.

Same band, different venue - lots of preppie, frat-type people in the bar. We were playing a local joint, all of our friends (tattoos, local heavies, bikers, etc..) were "mingling" with the frat boys. Well, of course that doesn't end well. I remember playing 3 songs and then pretty much the entire dancefloor was outside in a brawl. Yours truly picked up a milk crate and was swinging at two frat dudes who were beating on a friend of ours. Not my best moment. Of course the cops came, you can't miss about 30 people in the middle of the road going at it.

I have a couple more but we will stop there for now.

'Is it pretty rough out there in Eastern Louisiana?'

Bear in mind, Acadiana (what the Cajuns call home, along I-10 from the Tx line down to New Orleans) is one of my favorite places to play (and eat!). But like anywhere else, there are those gigs where you DEFINITELY keep both eyes open and your mouth shut. I once filled in for a friend on a gig like the country gig in The Blues Brothers . . . . . except the stage was surrounded floor to ceiling chain link (chicken wire would have never held up) and the only 'stage entrance' was a bank-quality steel door behind the drum riser. You looked through the fence into this black void . . . . . they'd start fighting and bounce off the chain link like the WWE. Never subbed for him again . . . . .

If you really want to have something prepared for the occasion, you have the National Anthem of wherever you are down cold, and when a fight breaks out, you play that, which (musically) is about the only thing that might have a positive effect on stopping the fight.

Long time ago, random crackhead - who I think was there to pickpocket - got heckled by the singer, went nuts.
My old epihphone 6-string got irreperably broken, crackhead got a finger bitten off.

I almost felt bad about it.

There was video, the police informed me I was defending myself.

This was a first for me in nearly 1100 shows. I'm not sure exactly what caused it (other than alcohol, obviously), but Dude A walked up and sucker punched Dude B in the face (a coward move, to be sure, but in all fairness that punch was executed with perfect form and connected HARD). They fall on stage, another guy jumps in, then another guy, and all hell breaks loose. My guitarist goes to jump in (still holding his guitar) so I grab him and pull him away. Singer did beautifully...screamed over the mic to stop fighting and get off the stage, but didn't ever get involved physically. Finally some big dudes jump in and break everyone apart. Surprisingly, nothing broke. Couple cables pulled out from the monitors and that was it. We calm down, get the crowd settled, and finish the set, which ended up being one of the best we've ever played. Hell of a night, sorry for my poor story telling skills (i'm no BassCliff, that's for sure!), but it was interesting and I thought I'd share.

How about you guys? Ever had a fight break out and end up on stage? Tell me your stories, lets laugh at drunk idiots together

Some Hell's Angels were at one gig, fight did break out in back of bar. Lots of big bouncer types rushed back there, ushered the fight outside. We kept playing, everything was back to normal inside within a minute. Never did d find out exactly what happened or who was involved.
