Stage 81: S/D thread

I feel your pain. I'm trying not to air too much dirty laundry on here, but I just need an outlet sometimes.

Looks like my Friday night has been planned for me, hopefully I can wrestle some good toanz out of this experience.

I have none of those things. I'm borrowing some mid-level mics, I have a behringer mixer and guitar player just bought a tascam multi-track recorder. Practice space is in his basement. There's some sheets and **** hanging on the wall, but nothing that really does any good.

Man guitarists are a dime a dozen... if he's really being that much of a headache, are you and drummer at all open to replacing him? Obviously I dont know how close yinz all are.... but if I had put THAT much work into an album, and the guitarist had already recorded all his stuff and essentially isnt necessary to the album process anymore, I'd tell him either to suck it up or walk. You and drummer can finish the album and hey, you have a fresh snazzy album to attract a 100% better guitarist with.

I can be a stubborn douche, and if I were in your shoes and already pissed about it, I'd be giving ultimatums. If he can't listen to reason (the 2nd recording doesnt have the required materials to be as good as the first, despite his shiny new guitar) and he can't respect the band democracy, he is simply a douche.

I understand you'd probably feel bad about kicking a guy out right when the albums ready, but think about how bad YOU feel RIGHT NOW that you're nearly finished and he wants to scrap it and start over.

Toast, you're right on the money. Believe me, I've thought of all of this before. I've nearly walked from this band at least 3 times in the past.

I've made a lot of concessions and given up a lot.

As much as we like to pretend that there's a democracy here, there isn't.

Guitar player is also singer/lyricist/songwriter. He pretends that he's not the sole creative force but he is. Anything I come up with "doesn't fit the band". So I quit trying to introduce new ideas.

I'm looking for a second project, and have adjusted my expectations way down for the current band. It's much less than ideal, but I get to play loud and do shows with other cool bands.

But I'm always thinking about a different project. I don't know where this will all lead, but I think I need to take a drastically reduced role in this band and focus my time and effort elsewhere.

I don't know if drummer is ready to bail, but we definitely are on the same page musically and with our ideals regarding playing in a band. Guitar player was seriously considering moving out of state and drummer and I have already decided that we want to keep working together, so that's good.

Maybe it's time for something new. At the very least a side project to run along side this one.

so for a quad the easiest is to lead with your right hand, and do 3 notes on your left hand, all on one string. i have a lot tricks for these so let me know if thats what youre trying to do.

Well, good news is that drummer guy is as mad as I am.

I'm withdrawing my offer to help with the re-recording. No nice microphones, no recording expertise (I use that term loosely).

I can't wait for work to be over, I haven't wanted a drink this badly in quite some time.
