Stage 81: S/D thread

Hope everyone had a great night and got home in one piece.

That Mastodon shirt is pretty rad!!! Was checking FB and thought it was pretty funny some people were getting upset with the band for the shirt.

From Mastodon's FB:
" Regarding our thanks giving shirt, whether you choose to believe or not, the American Indians were massacred by the white settlers who became the Americans we are today.
this shirt represents this atrocity and celebrating in the face of this atrocity is chilling.

we may have a sick sense of humor, but we are far from being "Racist" as some of you who might not get it are calling us."

I thought Thangsgiving was about the Indians saving the first settlers.
So think Mastadon would of been funnier if they did the you should of fought back harder. Is divide and conquer really that shocking from the history of lots of countries. Look what the Jews did in Israel. I think a lot more goes in to everything, I bet the Indians did plenty of divide and slaughter of other tribes and setllers. Ultra conservatives and ultra liberals always miss the point and just like to be armchair crybabies IMHO. Sorry I'm not very pc or crybaby for that matter.

Oh and Disney Asian Pocahontas is hot!

Pretty much. The very first europeans to arrive introduced the disease which killed off more than 3/4 of the native population in the 200 years before the first wave of settlers arrived. Then they killed off the rest.

1491 is a great book about north and south american history before all of the **** hit the fan. Highly recommended reading if you're even remotely interested in that kind of stuff. Very well-written and easy to read. I read a lot of history books and some of them are very dry and/or dense, 1491 is not one of those. I couldn't put it down and was bummed when I finished it.

I thought it was wild how that one Indian was immune/resistant to the disease and lived while his whole tribe died, and had traveled with some of the first people to sail back and forth and leanred English and he walks up to the first settlers and speaks English and they are like blown away. all that early American history is a trip, and how about that crazy Croatoan dissapearing settlement, not sure how that is spelled, but that is a creepy story.

I had recording scheduled for today, since a month ago...apparently the person completely forgot. Soooooo...my schedule just freed up for the day.

We preordered a smoked turkey from a really good local bbq place right around the corner from our house. Everyone in my family raved about it being the best Thanksgiving turkey they ever had, makes me want to give it a try myself in the future. Super small holiday this year, just the wife and I, my parents and my aunt. Everyone else in my family has moved away, died or went out of town to do stuff elsewhere this year. When I was younger it would be like 35 people. We kept it pretty low key and had a nice time though. The wife and I made chipotle mashed yams together and they turned out freaking delicious and super easy to make, thanks Alton Brown.

When we went on vacation last year, that's what we watched on my wife's laptop whenever we were waiting in an airport. We listened to his podcast recently and he did 3 different episodes on Thanksgiving dishes. One for just the turkey, one for the side dishes and one for dessert. We got a free turkey last week, so my wife tried the turkey one on that just for practice, came out amazing. We did the mashed yams with chipotle from that and she's doing some other dish for a dinner we're going to with her family tomorrow.

I think I'm gonna try to write a song right now. Breaking out the Wizard Fuzz.
