YEP, YEP, YEPMusicianship + stage presence is better than musicianship without it.
Kind of like the Blues Brothers at Bob's Country Bunker.
I move a little but not a lot. I'm very uncomfortable jumping around and trying to play. I think you should just do whatever feels natural for you and not try to force it. I saw a major artist open for KISS a few years ago. The lead singer ran out on stage, crouched down, stretched his arm out in front of himself and pointed his finger at the audience. It looked so forced and fake that I felt embarrassed for him.
I think stage presence is overrated. Some of the best players of all time didn't move very much. John Entwistle and Eric Clapton for example. I would rather see a great band that doesn't move around very much than a terrible band that jumps around all night.
I respectfully disagree. But then I’m speaking from an 80’s point of view. You can be excellent musicians and yet still entertain.
For the 80’s Bon Jovi ruled.
the problem with this generation is they don’t know what entertainment is. The Guitarhero generation.
I think your argument is a bit flawed. You are suggesting that because some of the best players of all time didn't have much stage presence that it doesn't matter for the average joe. It would be better if you had suggested mediocre players who had little stage presence with success. It's not easy for the average joe to be Clapton or Entwistle.
Myself, one of the guitar players and Vox all get busy on stage. The other guitar player(my brother) isn't very animated but moves around somewhat. I'm large(fat) but move around on the stage like I was an in shape type person and have even been known to show off my vertical leap of 2 inches now and again, testing stages for their structural integrity. God help me if I find the weak spot in the floor of the stage. I guess I really get into the music![]()
