Just in case you have to communicate a specific note to non bass players (i.e. piano players), your low E is E1 and the G string 12th fret is G3.

Bass and guitar are written an octave higher than what they actually sound. Useful to know if you are reading piano parts.

And sight reading bass at actual pitch is a real pain with all the lower ledger lines.

FWIW I don't have to worry about things like that. C at the 3rd fret or C at the 8th fret, I'd probably do C at the 8th fret if I was using Nashville numbers and C at the 3rd fret if I was following chord names and playing in first position.

I prefer Nashville Numbers, but, will play from chord names when I do not have time to transpose the fake chord to NN. Either way the 5 is still up a string and over two frets or down a string same fret.....

We all play from fake chord sheet music and the guys have left what I use up to me.

I had a piano player hand me written bass parts once... Of course it was all ledger lines because he just copypasted his midi lines into a notation program. What a PITA.
