It's so good to see the Hawks on the rebound. I've many fond memories of watching Saturday night hockey on WGN-TV with my dad in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The coach at the time was Rudy Pilous (sp?). Ironically, watching the Hawks was the last thing I ever did with my dad. He was in the ICU at Northwestern Memorial with Congestive heart Failure. We watched the Hawks, led by Denis Savard (He shoots! He Scores! With Savard-Faire!!). The nurse came in and turned off the TV, claiming that my dad's heart monitor was beeping all over the nurses station. Dad died the next morning. He was never a big sports nut, but he loved his Hawks.

Mmmm. I hope they at least won for him on his last night on Earth.

Oh yeah! That was playoff hockey at its finest - the Hurricanes wanted it more than the Devils and so Staal's shot deflects off the defenseman's foot and they win.

That was great, determined hockey even though it marred my otherwise perfect prediction record... :(

Chicago at Vancouver Thursday at 6:00PM PDT - I'm ready! :D

I hope you're right. This series has the makings of something great. Luongo vs. Khabibulin, Toews and Kane vs. the Sedin brothers, Vigneault vs. Quenneville . . . all great matchups. And lets not forget about the bad blood between these two teams.

This is gonna be good.

I'm also intrigued by the Canes and Bruins . . . seems like the Bruins are superior, but man the Canes showed some heart during the opening round.

I sure as hell hope so!

Canucks/Blues second game first period was the best hockey I've seen in years - big, fast and hard-hitting - chances at both ends. 22 hits at the 9:30 mark! :D

I'm sure the Hawks will be watching video of their last game against the Canucks. They were out-scored, out-taunted, out-cheap-shotted, out-fought and lost 4 - 0. It doesn't hurt that Khabibulin hasn't beaten the Canucks in 11 years...

Whew, that turned out better than I thought it would. :)
The Canucks looked really out of sync - their passing was off, their shooting was off, the goalie was off - but the Blackhawks looked really tentative through the first 2 periods too.

How about Chet taking 2 high sticks and losing a chiclet? I thought he played a great game with two assists.

That third period was a roller coaster ride but it ended well for us. Toews looked like he was hurt - and he missed a lot of the third. Any of youse Chicago hockey fans hear anything about that? :(

Toews missed the skate yesterday, but nobody really knows why. The NHL is so wierd about injuries, so many times you hear "lower body injury" which could mean everything from a sprained ankle to an amputated leg. So who knows how healthy Toews is, but I agree -- he didn't look right.

Series is off to a solid start . . . both teams looking rusty at times, but both playing with energy. The Sedin twins are a joy to watch and Kane just seems to find the puck in the right situations. TOO MANY PENALTIES for the Blackhawks. Even thought they didn't result in a lotta goals, the pks really took it out of the hawks. Anyway, exciting third, great game, go Hawks.

Man, what a difference a goalie makes! Varlamov has turned the Capitals into contenders for the East crown by stopping everybody (except for his own defenseman) - I really thought Pittsburgh was going to be down 3 - 0 tonight.

Detroit will have to get some therapy to expunge the feeling of helplessness when they had the tying goal waved off for...no reason whatsoever?! That was an awful call - Jackson should be embarrassed and we probably won't see him in the next round.

Vancouver at Chicago 5PM PST Thursday - yeah baby!

ALL of the second round series' are hard fought and compelling - East, West, whatever - and guys are really bringing it, game after game.

Its the best Playoff season in a long time, maybe ever. :)

While Fleury has been good in net (aside from that bizarre goal in the first 2 minutes), Varlamov is the reason why the Pens/Caps series is the way it is. The Pens have carried the play for long stretches in the series, but Varlamov is making huge saves that a goalie shouldn't be making.

I thought Vancouver was in trouble with Salo AND Demitra out, but then again, you had to know Luongo was going to make up for the previous game.

The second round has been wacky.

I don't get it either, but I don't think Ovechkin could do much when looking at how hammered he is.. Anyway, I don't think that's Kozlov. I think that's Semin.

Check out the size of Ovechkin's thigh muscles. Man, he looks even more caveman-like when he's wasted.
