I recently took some of my old computers in to Staples to be repaired because 1) I thought that they could probably do a decent job 2) the store is 2 blocks from my house.

Well it has been a nightmare.

What has been your experience with these jokers?

I make a decent amount of money on the side fixing computers for people who took them to Staples/Best Buy/Office Depot/etc. In my experience, those stores hire younger males who think they are elite hackers. Unfortunately, the general public can't filter the baloney those guys feed them. All they hear are the buzz words like malware, phishing, hacked, etc, so they open their wallets.

For people like that, I tell them to buy a Mac. The extra money upfront is saved long term with unnecessary $100 or more trips to see the jokers at those stores.

I worked at Staples for a certain time while in High school. Out of all the tech they had back then, one was good. If you had anyone else but him, you were screwed, big time.

I often get asked to do fixing on the side, I'm not the best and I hate it so I always refer them to competent people I know. I also tell them never to go to Staples, because most of them ask, but even when they don't I feel I have to tell them.
