Star Trek Beyond

...I never got to meet Leonard...
I have, and we'll just leave it at that.
I've never waited in line for a movie. No thank you. I'll wait weeks of need be. Or wait till I can see it at home some how.
When I was working in Westwood in the late '80s, we watched as people sat in a very long line, around the block, for three days, to see the first Batman movie, at the Village (world premiere)

I saw STB yesterday afternoon, and also on Labor Day weekend. I have not seen the previous two films in this series, so I went with an open mind. Having watched the original series when it first aired (as a young kid) it did take a moment to get past the new actors, but as this is for a new generation it took but a few seconds to get used to that. I think casting did a very good job, and the actors seemed to research the original characters to get their "thing" down, and they did so very well, IMO. I have never seen any of the F&F films (the trailers I have seen back in the day made them out to be way too adolescent for my tastes), and given today's penchant for special effects being the real stars in movies, I was impressed enough with STB to see it twice two weekends in a row. YMMV.

I went and saw it this past Sunday as well - wow, only about a half dozen people in the theater! I love waiting awhile to see new movies!

Had a good time, but damn, if they keep building this kid a whole new Enterprise every couple years, the Federation are going to run out of money!

I think that all three new Trek movies have been enjoyable. Beyond, however, is the first time I saw Chris Pine and really thought "yep, that's Kirk. Finally!" By contrast, I think Zachary Quinto's Spock this time just wasn't as good as he had been in the other two. Plus, the army of "bees" really felt like a huge threat as an enemy (I was surprised that
they didn't just rip right through the base's outer dome like tissue paper, considering their number and tactics)
.
The "gravity nexus" part felt a little hokey, but hey, it's Star Trek, can't have that without a little camp and hoke!
