Earth Final Conflict is a masterpiece compared to Discovery. It wasn't great, but it was 90s cheesy scifi. Discovery has no excuse for being as bad as it is and it's worse because it's called Star Trek. EFC was Roddenberry but he had nothing to do with a lot of the best Star Trek.

If you give the actors bad scripts and sketchy directing, this is what you get. There are definitely bad actors, but generally speaking actors can only work with the script and direction they're given.

This episode was a slog.

Farscape, while being a silly show with puppets and no budget and some questionable character choices, is miles better than anything called Star Trek made after 2005. That show had characters you cared about. It had heart. It had ******* stories. Real sci fi stories. It had 'splosions too. Lots of splosions, and space battles. Some crying. Not Michael Burnham level crying, but some.

I can't count the number of times I literally rolled my eyes whilst watching Discovery, wondering how our infallible superhero Burnham was going to single-handedly save the galaxy again! We should be so lucky! Five seasons in and I barely know anything about most of the bridge crew nor do I care about any of them, except Saru, and he was demoted to allow the best character ever to shine.

The whole show reeks of groupthink and box-checking and I'm guessing the writers and producers are mainly at fault. Whatever STD might aim to be, it doesn't feel like Star Trek, more like a bad parody of Star Trek. That said, season 5 hasn't been as obviously cringeworthy as previous seasons. My hope is that the ending involves the elimination of the starship Discovery and all of its crew from all possible timelines in all possible multiverses such that it is never mentioned again... at which point this thread and all related traces of its existence will immediately vanish.

Haven't watched the last two episodes yet.

Instead, I started re-watching Strange New Worlds from the first episode; it was refreshing and left me much more hopeful for the franchise. Suddenly, there's more depth in secondary characters, a grander vision of exploration of ideas, of humanity, and an optimism for our future exploring space. SNW has its flaws, but I was honestly surprised at how I reacted when I started watching it again, especially after enduring five years of STD.

Last scene is a closed water closet door inside a crew cabin. Off camera a toilet flushes (with futuristic plumbing sounds). The closet door opens. Out steps William T. Riker, holding the sides of the door for support. Flop sweat runs in rivulets across his shiny forehead. "Computer, end program".

It was all a #2 simulation...

My main consolation for the last season was that lieutenant Linus got a bridge promotion and so we got more excellent reptilian reaction shots. I really do wish they did more with the ensemble cast instead of making it almost all about the captain. For instance, an episode featuring Linus! And too much action movie lite/fight scenes for my taste.

I guess there were some things they did:
they refreshed the Klingons :eek:
And the Gorn,
and we got to see Breen without helmets (was that a first?).
I don't think I'd seen Kelpiens before Suru. Although I could have done without a Kelpien - Vulcan marriage, but I guess that was a minor thing.

That's so cheap. That's so obvious. It was a mystery. They joked about it. What an awful creative decision. **** I hate this show so much.

Watched the last episode this morning.

The cosmos is now safe because of the unwavering, incomparable, awesomeness of Michael Burnham, who, we can now rest assured, lived happily ever after. I am relieved and supremely grateful that this person existed, for the benefit of all life everywhere. The alternative is absolutely, unimaginably, horrific...
