Star Trek: Picard

Here's a recent official teaser trailer. As alluded to in a prior teaser, yes Q is back and played by John DeLancey.

Edit: "Coming in 2022".

Saw this yesterday. :) Intriguing. Great to see DeLancie again. Wondering what the deal is with these new badges, and what's happened with Seven's Borg implants? Smells a little of the Mirror Universe to me...

Time is fractured. Alternate realities. Seven of Nine seeing a universe in which she was always Annika Hanson instead of having been assimilated. The badge could be anything. Someone decided alternate timelines is a good idea for season two. Universes converging. Picard will remember being an archeologist instead of a Starfleet officer. Q will help him navigate different universes to save all universes.

I realize the show isn't exactly a favorite here (note the lack of discussion of Season 2). But this is interesting news for Season 3, which will conclude the series.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Announces Return of Major Next Generation Cast Members

Star Trek: Picard has announced its Season 3 cast in a new video teaser that was released by Paramount+. The real headline here is that in Picard Season 3 Star Trek fans will get the long-awaited reunion of major cast members from the Star Trek: The Next Generation series. Patrick Stewart will be joined onscreen by Jonathan Franks [sic] (Will Riker), LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge), Brent Spiner (Data), Michael Dorn (Worf), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), and Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher).

Series 2 has been great so far. :) Loads of nice little deep-cut references. Loved that they brought back the same punk guy from The Voyage Home on the bus! The story has me quite gripped... not quite sure what Q's up to. There's lots of strands to bring together in the next 5 episodes. There's the stuff with Q, obviously, then there's Jurati and the Borg Queen, Seven and Raffi's relationship, Picard's ancestor, Adam Soong and his daughter... loads to unravel.

The third series is supposed to be the last, so it makes sense that they're getting the old band back together for it. Can't wait. Hopefully there'll be an Enterprise involved. We've got Strange New Worlds and more Lower Decks coming up before that though, so there'll be plenty to keep us busy.

What does everyone think of the Strange New Worlds trailer?

There’s plenty of average sci-fi to watch. But I hold Star Trek to a higher standard. S2 of Picard is just awful. Maybe S3 with the TNG cast reunion will be better.

So, Picard S2 is unwatchable. I’ll just read the synopses. Discovery, Lower Decks, and Prodigy are between seasons. Buhbye for now Paramount+.

That first episode of season 2 grabbed me, but if you pay attention to the runtime, they've been consistently shortening the episodes.
Between stretching the story & shortening the episode, they'll be lucky go get this whole debacle patched up in only 4 more episodes.

It will undoubtedly be solved in a Deus Ex Machina manner similar to season 1.

I haven't been happy with Paramount+, so I will be letting my trial subscription expire.
If you want Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos that means paying $100/year. No Thanks!

The price for Picard season 1 on blu-ray is dire, too. over $30 for a single disc

Offered for your consideration.

No amount of fan service can save this dumpster fire of a show.

They're entitled to their opinion. It obviously gets them clicks. But myself and the rest of us who actually enjoy the show will still be watching despite the opinion of one angry nerd on the internet.

Not arguing, but you replied so quickly you couldn't possibly have read anything the author said to explain himself except to read the headline. I'm not a complete idiot, wouldn't share an obvious clickbait hatchet job.

I actually came across this article via Twitter earlier today - I clicked through to check if it was the same one, and it was.

This is precisely why a lot of good shows and films end up tanking - you can't keep all the fans happy all the time, and the ones who seem the least happy are the most vocal, despite not being the majority. It's not just Trek - look at Star Wars, Terminator, whatever Marvel show/film is out right now, etc, etc - every new show/film based on these franchises gets blasted to kingdom come online, even if they're good. It's like they never get a chance because the negativity has started before anyone's even seen them.

I am very much enjoying the second series of Picard. I enjoyed every series of Discovery. Hell, I loved The Book of Boba Fett, and thought the last two Terminator films were great. If that puts me at odds with some angry nerds, so be it.

The main points seem to be that the show is joyless, and missing all the fun and optimism and thought provoking ideas and stories that made tng great. The dialogue is overly quippy and everyone is depressed. I understand you like the show but you disagree with those specific points?
