Hello!
I had a bass like this for a while. It was a lovely little bass, and a little strange, too.

I love it, but sold it due to having too many basses. Recorded this little tune on it. Was one of my first attempts at recording on the computer, so bare with me!
And first of all... sorry about the cheesy drums... never really intended it to be "published"
The bass tracks are all the Status Shark. There are probably 2-3 different takes, cannot remember anymore. But everything is recorded on the Shark. For a single pickup instrument, I think it has a quite defined and warm tone. It isn't as "oompy" as other P-bass types I've owned, and althoug it lacks something of the bridge pickup bite that I usually prefer to blend in, it's got a good sound. It's probably one of a very few single-pickup instruments I actually kept for a while.

The bass was exactly like the one in the photo below.

The neck is great, a little squarish in the neck shape, but slim and easy to play. Fretwork is amazing, as always from Status. The single metal covered pickup is cool, but there was a little noise to it. The scratchplate was a little too soft, and since all the electronics were mounted on it, it was a little too "wiggly" for me. But I've seen people have replaced the pickguard themselves.
I'm not sure if the pickup is in the Precision location or more towards the Music Man position... but it's sound is not as "purely" Precision as one would expect. It hasn't got the Stingray vibe, either, though... So what does it sound like?!

Well, listen to the recording... maybe you can tell me?!
All in all, I would say the body and neck are very good, the electronics could benefit from an upgrade, and the pickguard needs an upgrade. But it's a cheap way into a great little bass.
I seem to remember that I tried hard to find a replacement pickup for it without any success. But I wasn't too experienced with getting replacement pickups at the time, and may have looked for the wrong thing. I think the pickup route is actually a "tub", so it might be possible to fit quite a few different pickups in there, but might have to change the pickguard. Again... can't really remember.
The B-string was ok, but not superb. To me it didn't matter, as I strung it E-C.
Hope it helps!
