Synapse 5 sounds right, in that case.
Doubtful - from what I remember the XQ-5 spacing was tighter than I prefer, plus I really try and stick with single pickup basses these days. (Piezos don't count.) I wouldn't mind checking one out again, though - it's been years.
HeavyDuty, Synapse 5-er sting spacing is the same as on XQ5 (17 mm or 0.67")... It's the standard Steinberger "5 wide" bridge so it might be still tigher than you want

Ah, I see

Its different for me, I suppose, as I wear the bass high enough that it doesn't matter whether I sit or stand.
You can use the strap pivot as an ad-hoc leg rest in the interim. Some find that very useful

The leg rest is the leg rest... and i want one anyhow, and what do you mean by using the pivot as a interim, how should that work?

Interim = Til you organise one!, Just pivot the strap pivot downwards ( 180 degrees from where it usually is in operation) and it stops the bass moving around on your leg.

Its not ideal, but some people use it, it being better than nothing.

Well, damn - I just realized the Synapse has a single piece uncompensated saddle. That noticeably cools my ardor.

I need to find an XQ fiver to see if I could live with it. I'm not crazy about the two pickups, but I could cope.

Were many wide XM25s made? That would be my first choice.

People make a big deal of that one piece bridge. I never noticed any intonation problems on my Synapses.

Ned Steinberger is not a fool, I'd say get a hold of one ad go up the dusty end to see if its out of tune?

The saddle adjusts backwards and forwards independently, top and bottom, to intonate anyway.

I don't think there were any wide XM2-5s. Only XLs and XQs. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure.

You're right - I should give one a try instead of I dismissing it out of hand. I'd really prefer the single pickup plus piezo that the Synapse offers. Not that I wouldn't mind a traditional Steinberger, too.

I'll take a number please!

Any Spirit XP-2 or XP-25 owners around? Are they set neck like the Spirit XT series or bolt neck like the Spirit XZ series?

I believe they (XP2 anyways) are set next based on the pics i remember.

I found a listing on craigslist, and they are set neck. I am not affiliated in any way with the seller.

Good Luck!

I do believe you are correct. I almost grabbed one years ago when MusicYo brought them in. I remember now how I wanted to make a new single pickup pickguard for one.

I just put a wanted ad up in the classifieds for one, if anyone sees a fiver locally please let me know!

HomesickBob, thanks - I assume you're referring to the graphite necked XPs? I've seen enough photos that imply the Spirit XPs are through neck like the XTs. (I don't know why I was saying set neck above - I had a pair of XT-2s years ago and knew they were through neck. Getting old...)

Speaking of which, my new XT-25 arrived the other day. To my delight and some surprise, I'm having no issues with the narrower 5W spacing. My wooden ruler at work showed 15mm spacing.

Smileys - sorry, that's what the board software offers. You can try a post in the Suggestion Box to see what Paul (the site owner) says about expanding the selection.

Looks like you're right with the neck through XPs... are there no bolt ons too?
15mm* is ok to me, 14 on the L25 starts to get tricky but since i run .040-.126** strings the difference is not that big!

*Mine shows up 16mm... bizarre!
**.050-.135 on the Spirit and the Warwick
