The only string I'm concerned about is the low B. I haven't tried to intonate the bass with these strings on it, but usually, that B string saddle has to be backed as far down toward the end of the bass as possible to get it properly intonated. When that happens, it exerts upward pressure on the string. Normally, no problem, but with the ball being about 90% exposed, it seems like it would be easy for that bridge saddle to pop that ball out of its saddle. I agree with you, my concern is probably unwarranted, but I already have the string adapter, so using regular strings will for sure solve any issue with that that I have. The only problem I've had with the string adapter is on the G-string. If I don't tighten the set screw enough, it slips through the adapter, ruining the string. If I tighten it too much, the set screw snaps the string. The ball ends stick out from under the cover and initially I was concerned about that as well but they've never budged. I'll wouldn't worry about it, under tension I can't see how they could move. Anything's possible I suppose but it's never been an issue.
Thank you for your help. I realize you are probably right, and I'll take that into account when I order strings because the Rotosounds currently on it sure do sound good, even if their balls are exposed!
