Was there ever a consensus on the best drop in replacement pickups for the XT-2? I really like mine, but it just lacks the punch that my other basses have. Not sure if this is a pickup thing or a lack of body mass.

Thanks....... I only saw a couple of mentions of the EMG HBCS and also some Alembics (that were apparently super expensive). I only saw one comment about the performance of the HBCS......but I didn't read all 38 pages (just comments from the past couple of years). I guess I need to just sit down and scroll through all of it.
I'm assuming the EMG HBCS pickups are active and will require a pre-amp? I was hoping to find something that was passive.

The HBCS pickups ARE active, but don't actually need a preamp outside of the pickups themselves. They have preamps built into the body of the pickup. The original kits used to ship with a special passive volume and passive tone control with values that matched the lower-impedance outputs.
My steinberger spirit xt25, after measurements, will fit the H7 sized EMG 7 string humbuckers almost perfectly with only one hole drilled for the single screw on the left vs the stock 2 screw mounting on the left of the pickup.
That being said, EMG said they would have to make a custom H7 tuned for bass but the price was basically the same as normal pickup as their stuff is all built to order anyway.

Kinda the same with the active EMG pickups if I have to be honest. The EMG Preamp would help with the lack of “body mass”
Thanks. This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I don't mind spending the money on a set of EMG's if they help make it punchier. I'll probably just stick with the stock pickups then.
Other question would be if there is enough room in the control cavity for a battery. Assuming yes, cause I haven't seen anyone up here mention it as a problem.
Have you opened the cavity to see how much room you actually have?
The BTC is likely your best bet and it’s just pot with small board attached, the BQC would be too big.
Wait....doesn't the BTC need a battery? That's my main concern.......and yes I opened it up, but imho it's questionable if a battery will fit in there.
There might be enough room for a Tone Monster preamp w/battery in there, depending on the one you get. In my XZ it brought the output up to the level of my other basses and added a little clarity (and they're inexpensive).

I am looking for something that will give me a straighter plucking wrist when playing sat down. I have a svelte Ibanez SR and rest my forearm on the body, and am considering either something PHAT hollow body, or Steiny. What are your thoughts?
(Fear holding arm up might be tiring on shoulder muscles etc)
