Steinberger Spirits

Not sure what all the hubbub is about the spirit models they have some of the best necks and quality bridges. They are nice hard rock Maple, very stable and play very nice with a good neck geometry… and rarely have to be adjusted. I shaved/thinned the necks on a couple of them and they remain extremely stable, really nice quality.

I just bought another parts donor to strip out the neck and the bridge from this one to be used on another body build.

I shamelessly gig Squiers, Epiphones, LTD's etc on some large stage/large crowd gigs so why not? If it sounds good it sounds good, plus it makes you stand out way more than the average FSO which every dog and his brother plays. Assuming of course that you WANT to be seen.

This past Sunday evening I pulled the Spirit out to play for my church's evening service. We have three services a week: Sunday AM, PM, and Wednesday PM. Seems like a lot but I'm used to it now, so it isn't that bad. My main bass is a Wolf 7 string (strung with a low F#) and I'm trying to rotate through my basses to enjoy them as the band I'm in hasn't been very active lately. So I'm thinking Sunday evenings are my 'surprise' bass services (and my sound guy loves it! No, not really :laugh:)

I like playing the Spirit because it's so light - not so much overall weight, it's the lack of a headstock that makes the neck feel so lightweight. I can turn around to make eye contact with other musicians on stage and the weight just isn't there (not to mention I don't risk causing a head injury as I'm 6' 5" tall - can you imagine a 7-string bass headstock 'whooshing' through the air towards your forehead? :eek:)

It’s quite polarizing and I get my share of harassment (“it’s broken” comments, etc.) but that’s part of why I use it. :smug:

Another option Is from bootlegger guitars. They’re offering a liscenced version of the Warwick “chest bow” extender, originally for the Nobby Meidel bass
Also available directly from bootlegger guitars.
The Warwick is more expensive but includes Schaller type strap lock system

The one from bootlegger is the better one IMO. the bar is long enough to put your strap button at the 12th fret and can be removed quickly for convenience.
I still have one in my parts bin.
The turner one really is only designed to be effective with the turner instruments. It’s too short really .

the ones for the Steinberger synapse seem to be the best solution, but you pretty much have to fabricate one of your own. They’re just not easily obtainable
