UPDATE from my EDN:

They did some inquiring and told me that GC/MF is allowed to ship to Canada but not allowed to ship elsewhere like Europe. So, because international customers are not allowed to order it from GC/MF, it has been added to their catalog.

Since Canadians are allowed to order from GC/MF, that IS their intended option.

So know, you can't get it in Canada, you're *supposed* to order it from the US. They probably simply don't realize that particular option is a very cumbersome, expensive, and unpleasant one.

I'm 100% sure, in my mind, this is just MF/GC being MF/GC. They're so big they can get access to certain models EXCLUSIVELY. They do it with Gibson, Fender, etc... If they had a bigger presence internationally, the BK5 wouldn't be anywhere else.

PS: that's what you get when you live in America's hat.

'MERICA!!!!

Their business is shipping instruments. It's their job to know that it costs us 50% more after expenses to receive their product compared to us destinations.

There is no reasonable excuse- certainly not ignorance.

I'm totally on your side... we get screwed here even though our dollar is more or less par with the US dollar. It's a silly and antiquated situation, and it frustrates me... obviously lol.

I have always want to try a MM but could never afford to even think about it not alone buy 1. Was at GC and saw a walnut ray4. Tryed it, loved it, bought it!
I noticed that the E string seamed louder then the other strings but thought it was just the set up. I've learned how to set up my basses so didn't give it a thought. Long story short, no matter what I do the A,D,and G strings just have no volume. They get lost in the mix, the E string just roars though. Anyone else have this problem? Is it just me? Any help or advise would be appreciated before I take it back. :help:

That sounds like a bad pickup. I'd take it back and do an exchange.

took it back to GC. There was a mint green 1 at another store in town so went and tired it. Big differance! So she cam home with me, took her out to jam with some friends last night, They really like the sound. I did to. Played it more then my Fender Deluxe active pj. Way cool bass! Thanks for all the help!!

just got me a SUB ray5 I'll post a pick later just to prove it,but at it's price everyone should believe me, I say this with everyone else what a impressive value top quality for its price the tone man the tone from this thing.I wanted to get into a 5 string without a lot of $$ involved this thing sets a high water mark.I'm spending some time to get used to it I may play it out this week but for sure next week.it is mega hot but I just turned down the volume to a respectable level and all is good,I'm leaving this thing stock (except for strings of coarse) this thing has a excellent neck.I'm lovin it!!!

I have a barely used '13 Sterling Sub Ray4 in Walnut. I have put Ernie Ball Cobalt Super Slinkys on it (45-100). I bought this bass at Guitar Center.

The bass is quite attractive (as you know), and sounds great and everything. I'm just failing to bond with it. I feel very bad about this. I think I'm just not meant for active electronics, perhaps.

I will part with it for $250 (paypal preferred), and that includes shipping and handling in the continental USA only.

This is in the wrong thread......

I Gigged twice yesterday with my SUB 5,used it the whole time for both
I really like this bass I had no problem with the output being to hot.I have to say I'm surprised how much I like playing on a five string I've only played 4 strings.I did get lost in a couple of spots but quickly recovered.it has just great tone,it's another tool in my shed that I will use a lot.

I received my Ray4 (Black w/ maple neck and fingerboard) a couple of weeks ago. been having trouble intonating it. turns out the strings it came with are crapola. i have finally gotten it set up and playable.

due to a sore back, decided to take it to rehearsal at church last wednesday. all i can say is WOW. what a sound. punchy as all get out. very very pleased with this bass. i will be changing strings out soon and using this anytime i need a break from my heavy 6-string.

if anyone is on the fence about these, they shouldn't be. well worth the money!

Hmmm...I must have had 6th sense. I ended up ordering a Ray5 black and Ax3 black from Musician's Friend since neither is available in Canada as per my previous posts.

Had some trouble with MF shipping the guitars out. They kept showing in stock but for some reason each day they just would not leave the warehouse. Ended up taking about 4 or 5 extra days to ship as a result. A little frustrating, but not a biggie.

Got the two guitars. The Ray5 is excellent. Looked over it closesly, no issue, didn't feel too heavy, build quality looked good, felt good, sounds good. Setup out of the box was actually playable. Even the factory strings weren't *that* bad but I already bought EB replacement strings.

Ax3, different story. Guitar looks beautfil, good feel, nice weight. Setup was unplayable out of the box, but that's to be expected. What was not expected was major alignment issues. Bridge is a little cockeyed, so the tremelo block noticeably crooked in the cavity, and the bridge pickup poles are misaligned with teh strings (the high E pole isn't under the E string at all).

Probably got unlucky with a manufacturing defect. It's like the guitar body wasn't properly aligned when it was routed or something. Just my luck after all the trouble I had.

Anyway, apparently MF will not process exchanges for Canadian customers, they only do refunds, then you repurchase the item again. Well, I already paid a $8 forex fee on USD purchase to CAD credit card the first time. When I ship it back to them, I'll need to pay $9 to insure the guitar. When they process the refund, I'll lose about $8 of the refund to the forex fee. When I repurchase the guitar again I'll pay an extra $8 in forex fees.

Yeah, this is exactly why I exhausted every single possible option to purchase the the instruments from an SBMM dealer here before resorting to ordering from the US.

So, hopefully the next AX3 will be a nice as the Ray5 I've atleast got in my hands now.

I recently purchased a Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray5. I must say that it is awsome for the low price. I have played MM 5's and they are incredibly out of this world but way out of my price range.

The Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray5 is a great instrment for it's price. I play with a Line 6 Lowdown 400 amp and gK4x10 cab and VX115 Bass Cabinet.

Love it.
