well, it (Sterling by MusicMan) is in fact, inferior. there is nothing wrong with owning one. but it is inferior.

But the EBMM Sterling is not.

It doesn’t help that the current Music Man CEO is named Sterling Ball, nor does it help that the EBMM Sterling model of bass is made by Music Man in the USA. It‘s terribly confusing. They should have picked a different name for the SBMM company for sure! I imagine that employees of both companies are tired of explaining the difference over and over again.

It's a terrible shame, because the EBMM Sterlings I've owned were two of the finest instruments I've ever played. But the confusion over the name makes it very difficult to have any discussion about them, as this thread amply demonstrates.

This is pretty rude. He's asking you why you think a line of production instruments that sells for under $1K is comparable to a line of instruments that sells for over $2K. If you don't have an answer to that question, it's safe to assume that perhaps you didn't understand that these product lines are different, which is a misconception held by many people.

I suspect that the short and simple reason is that hardly anyone has ever heard of a Sterling, so they just see it as a Stingray knockoff.

I love my EBMM Sterling! People often think it’s the lower grade Sterling by MM, but their opinion doesn’t make the bass play any less magical or sound any less thick, full, incredible sounding. The neck is just so nice. I have since found only one better playing neck, luckily I own that too.
