I mean, yeah, I totally agree. Too slick and polished and lacking in emotional grit for me, but obviously some very high technical achievement on their records.

I'm more inclined to just not listen to it than dis them publicly or argue with fans.

Were he alive I'm pretty sure Walter could surgically remove Steve's ego with one concise and insightful comment regarding Steve's ongoing struggle with relevance. Perhaps Walter could repurpose one of his classics, along the lines of:

"Steve Albini? I've always thought of him as more of a guitar owner than a guitar player."

I enjoy (pre-Aja) Steely Dan, but can also laugh at Steve's comments. Donald Fagen probably would, too.

Like him or know him or not, Albini is one of the most important figures in rock music. And he’s pretty funny.
Everyone has opinions and Albini’s happen to be entertaining.

I go through phases. I think Skunk is great but I also know I can’t listen to a full SD album without needing a break.

For anyone looking for a fun trip down memory lane, be sure and read up on Steve’s comments regarding Liz Phair in the early-to-mid 90s. If memory serves he later apologized for his statements. My point being, this isn’t the first time Steve has taken an artist to task when he doesn’t dig them, and this DEFINITELY isn’t his most brutal example of the behavior.
