Steve Harris

so, this should be the thread where we all come to worship Steve Harris:) i'm gonna have to disagree with most of you guys about him being the "best" metal bassist, but he's certainly the most influential in terms of tone and speed, and he's probably th ebest songwriter that ever lived.

edit: that should all be "IMO"

I think an argument could be made that he is the 'best' metal bassist, whatever that means. Such a discussion would be ******** from the get go, but whatever. He is the metal bassist that has had the biggest influence on my playing for sure. Nothing he does is really super hard to play, but the way he drives that band live is really impressive. It's groove and power, not that many jaw dropping licks at all.

agreed

his bass ability is through the roof being able to play a full maiden set kills most people his stamina is amazing some of his runs ad licks are awesome too and to be able to play them while running across the stage a full tilt is classic arry

UP THE IRONS!!

Anybody that plays metal bass, knows two things:

1) Steve Harris is a legendary bass player in his own right. It's classic metal. No 5 or 6 strings necessary to play this stuff.

2) If you can develop the stamina to play the 16th note galloping bass lines, keep perfect time, run across the stage, never miss a note, direct the live videos, own the band, write the songs, produce the songs, engineer the songs, and have a cool head...

You MUST BE STEVE HARRIS! No one else has, can, or do what he does with the unique style and flavor he does it with!

...Run to the Hills!!:bassist:

I was at the Melbourne gig on the 6th... Harris owned it.. the whole band was awesome (for a bunch of old geezers!) Bruce had so much energy, rocked it the whole show..

Harris is the stamina KING, pumping out those galloping lines and never missing a beat... try and keep up on any of the faster Maiden tunes, your right hand will cramp up faster than I can say..

UP THE IRONS!!!!!!

ps. I gotta say "Killers" is my fav album...

Completely agree. The "harris" in my forum name doesn't stand for anyone else! Trying to do his galloping finger style for one song just frustrates me! Never mind doing it for an entire show plus run around and entertain people.

And the flub video link that was posted - I am sure it was posted as a joke because IMO it was so obvioulsy editted and overdubbed. What kind of an Iron Maiden audience has all that cheesy clapping???:eyebrow:

Just bought the new DVD today! I had to go to 5 different places to find a copy. Everyone was sold out! Not bad for a 30 year old metal band!

He is a great bassist, but as a lyricist...Acacia 22 lyrics are so bad that they are good. :D

:confused:i think they're damn good lyrics. plus hallowed be thy name, caught somewhere in time, deja vu, for the greater good of god, and many others also have amazing lyrics. alot deeper/more original/more mature than what most metal bands are writing. in fact IMO the only other metal band with comparably awesome lyrics is Iced Earth.

"if you are a prostitute you may get STDs", amazing! :p

Yeah, when you compare Iron to other METAL bands, they are very, very good indeed. Iron Maiden lyrics are like a well made action movie, it wont change your views on life like some Leonard Cohen lyrics, but its plenty of fun.

Steve Harris is the reason I'm a bass player today.

I don't play like him (I should be so lucky!), I don't know many maiden tracks, and I'm not a metal fan any more. But back in the day he was influential enough to make me pick up the bass. And for that I salute him.

Nice one 'Arry ;)

i'm gonna have to disagree. some of their lyrics are the typical metal affair, but some ARE life changing

Steve Harris is God. The first time I saw them in concert Somewhere in Time tour, I swear my ears had a frickin orgasm. Seen them 3 other times as well. Live after Death is their best live DVD without question. I think they are the top grossing metal band of all time, with the most platinum records. Live at Donnington castle (91 or 92)was great too. After that year Bruce's voice started to show age
