Sticker Shock

I know this may sound a bit silly, but I took a bass that I've had since my teenage years to get a set up. It had a bunch of stickers that were put on it by teenage me, which I joked about when I dropped it off for set up.

Went to pick it up today, and somehow they thought I wanted all the stickers taken off, so they're gone.

As silly as it sounds, that was kind of what made that bass special to me. I'm majorly bummed out.

I've managed to find the two Pokemon stickers on eBay. Apparently "vintage Pokemon stickers" are a thing.

I HATE stickers on any instrument, but that's my taste. It's unfortunate that your luthier didn't actually listen to what you wanted… Listening is a dying skill nowadays, I think...

for me - stickers look good after they've been on several years and have that "worn look". the problem is, you have to put up with them till they age, until then they just look silly - how's that for a conundrum?

My luthier has a great process. I tell him what I want and you know what he does......he writes it down! Then he reviews it with me again to clarify any points. Then he reads them off one last time and I sign off on the work. Never had an issue in 20 years with my luthier.

Stickers.....not a fan, just a kid thing, wouldn't be caught dead with em'. But not mine so, whatev.
That said the tech not taking notes is criminal, as mentioned above. I had a tech lose his notes and drill an unapproved hole in a vintage bass once saying he "thought" he remembered our conversation. Needless to say he's persona non grata in my view now. I lost him from my phone and warn anyone who asks.

If you did not mention removing them I would be mad about it too especially since that was your history/memories and as you put it made that bass truly yours. I have to say, the dogs made me laugh.

I actually started out as a guitarist. I had/have two guitars, one I sticker'ed up when I was younger, totally laugh about what a younger me was thinking back then but yeah it made it uniquely mine.
