Stickers on pickups ?

I'm wondering what are those red and white things on this guy's Yamaha BB-415 ?

Are those stickers ?

Looks like either stickers or electrical tape.

I would highly doubt it - the most difference it would make would be stopping any popping the pickups might make if the strings hit the poles.

Judging by the other sticker on his bass, I am guessing that it is just an aesthetic thing.

Not unless it's made of metal.

It should be clear, from the red and white star, that those are pieces of tape put there for aesthetic reasons (Personally, I think the bass looks like trash that way, but that's just me.)

A second motivation may have been if the pole pieces were not grounded properly. Covering ungrounded pole pieces stops them from being able to buzz when you touch them.
