Stiffness or density what is more important?

I haven't tried it one of the reasons being it doesn't seem to like an oil finish and all my necks get oil finishes.Tom

Not sure about plain oil finishes, but I've used Spanish cedar for bodies, and finished in both Tru-Oil and Waterlox "polymerized oil" varnishes, and it seemed to work very well...

Seems to take finishes just like mahogany... My only concern would be strength/stiffness. Then again, just read that Melvyn Hiscock used Douglas fir for guitar necks specifically to prove that you don't have to use exclusively hardwoods for necks.

I have no experience using raw oil on Spanish cedar... just know that it looked pretty slick under Tru-Oil. Nit sure what results Roscoe had, although I recall they used Sc for bodies at one point.

I talked with Gaurd a while ago when I had the trouble with Watco Danish Oil. That was when he told me about it. With that bass I let it sit for a month and baked it in the sun then coated it with poly. According to the customer it is still fine...t
