Still a P-Bass if it has a flame maple top?

Yeah. Not like some crazy 9 pickup having bass. But pretty much any bass with a p pickup in the right position is a p in my eyes. It can be active, have a top, have a J pickup or something else (thus a pj or a p+ humbucker or whatever you'd like) but it's still a p bass. Just get the bass that makes you happy.

while we're on the topic of pups, just so everyone's aware of my position (no pun) on whether it will still be or not be a "p", is that i plan on routing-out right up against the fingerboard (as close as structural limitations will allow) for a real Telecaster (yup, for electric guitar) neck pickup in my LB-100 and probably some sort of split and tapped humbucker in the bridge

in the neck will be like:

A G & L LB100 with a flamed maple top sounds like an awesome bass to me!

I loved it as soon as I saw that finish. I installed a Fender replacement BWB guard.
