Stingray 2EQ vs. Stingray 3EQ

Well for one, the 3EQ's are much more abundant. From Sterling Ball himself, only about 2-3% of Stingrays roll off the assembly line with 2EQ's.
I find the 2 band more musical, having EQ points closer together. The addition of the middle band, pushes the highs to a more extreme frequency that I find harsh.

2 Band for me please.
3 band is definitely more versatile... but i found it too smooth sounding. the 2 band just has that classic stingray sound, y'know?

2-band for me too, bigtime fan here.
The 2's are much smoother on the low end, thumpier, and less brittle on the top end.
the 3-band just naturally pushes the high-mids a bit more, and there's where you get the metallicky harshness and clickety tones from.

I prefer 2-band big time. I never really know what to do with a mid control when I have one - on my Stingray or any other bass for that matter.
..probably one of the reasons why I bought a Sadowsky outboard pre a few years back. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Sadowsky outboard is pretty much a recreation of the vintage EB 2 band pre with some minor tweaks.

I'm a 2 band fan myself, they have that classic musicman sound that i love (Sade, Chic), but 3 bands are not that bad either.
They both sound great and the consensus seems to be that live the differences are pretty hard to hear.
Personally I have recently fallen in love with Sterlings and now they have my favorite 3 band EB preamp (although the single H Bongo 3 band is awesome).
I find that the 2 band Rays have more low end than the 3 bands and I really like the jack on the front rather than down on the side.
