Stingray 5 Club!

I’ve been a Stingray fan since I saw the Louis Johnson instructional video when I was 15 in 1985 but the Stingray 5 was my first Stingray and has always been my favorite EBMM bass for the better part of the past thirty years. I truly feel that it is the P Bass of 5 strings. It has in my opinion the best damn 34 inch scale B string and has so since it’s inception. I know there is a Stingray and a Stingray Special club that are apparently inclusive of the big brother.... but I think the Mighty SR5 deserves its own thread if there is in fact not one already? Anyone else?

PS I’m not really into the number thing but I’m not opposed to it either. If we get that far and anyone else wants to step up and do the number thing, that’d be great. :).

Point of order: this would *only* cover the SR5, big pickguard, three-band EQ, as introduced in 1989, but *not* the Classic Stingray 5, correct?

Since we’re clarifying, announced in 1987, with the first production models in 1988.

Now....I’m in! :bassist:

L-R: SR5 30th Anniversary, SR5H Special, SR5HH Special, early (July) ‘88 SR5.

Edit: Previously owned and sold - ‘06 SR5HH unlined fretless, ‘13 Classic SR5, ‘14 SR5HH.

I thought there was an SR5 club around here somewhere, but maybe not...

I’m on my 4th one in 5 years...had a 98, a 99, a 2004, and my current SR5, a 2011 with the Alnico pups that MM starting using around 2008. This bass doesn’t quite have the snarl and growl of the earlier ceramic-pup models, but I’ve figured out how to make it bark quickly enough. I loved all of the SR5s, but I’ve grown especially close to this latest bass.

Not long after I bought this bass, I got another pickguard for it from WDMUsic..

I also have a 2018 SR5 HH Special and a 2016 SR5 Neck Through. I will have 4 SR5s and a Classic SR5 by the end of the week. I need to post a family pic. I also have pics of many but not all of the SR5’s I’ve had in the past.

Nice! I have to fight the urge here and there to get another Classic 5. The Specials have completely taken over on all gigs for now, though I’m still on the fence about the 5HH. I know I’ve got pics of the ones I’ve sold; I’ll have to find ‘em.

I love my HH Special but I’m more of a H guy. I really want a Special H model. I’m on the hunt for that and a fretless model with the ceramic pickup.

That is my favorite color combo. I’m looking for a Special and an older fretless like that.

That’s me and why I sold my older 5HH - I really like the 5H tone. But the 5HH Special has a nice bag of tricks that I’m putting through the gig gauntlet currently. The next couple of weeks will yield a decision on if that one stays or goes.
