They sound nothing alike. I used to have A newer version with the Ceramic, that I did not like (I loved the Gold color). It was a little too sizzly. This one sounds closer to my old 1988. Due to the differences, I am considering swapping out the Sterling pickup for an Alnico version.

AI summaries often make mistakes. 2001 would be ceramic pickup for sure. The 4 string Stingray didn't go through pickup changes like the 5 string did over the years.

I trust you that they sound very different, I've payed a lot of basses with the exact same electronics that sounded totally different

Since I work at a vintage based guitar shop, every so often, I venture into some other local stores to see what’s new or unique. The one store has had this 30th Anniversary Stingray 5 for a good while. More than a year. It’s a cool bass, but I guess no one likes it $700-$1000 more than most other used SR5s.

Another store just recently became an Ernie Ball Dealer. They had the BeDazzled SR5 that I named, “Cotton Candy Dream”!!
I’m not a fan of the rounder bodies and new bridge.

I've bought bursts and naturals almost exclusively (my Big Al is a glaring exception to that rule), but I think that "Bedazzled" HH is pretty nice looking!

I've always wanted to try the 30th, but the prices do keep me from buying one. Just curious how it compares to the Special sound wise

They are discontinued so you'll have to pick up a used one! I had one briefly, they are very nice. I just ended up preferring my Special 5H

They don't. They did the run of nine-ish or so years, and thats it.
If you dig in the classifieds here you see a few available.

I pulled out my SR5 today after playing all weekend with the OLP Tony Levin Sig.

I love the peach color of the OLP, but the EBMM SR5 is such a great bass. I really feel like these basses rival boutique builders. The finish and build quality is crazy good. The playability is excellent and it sounds so good. With the preamp and coil switching you can get a bright snarly aggressive sound or a round, dark tone and all sorts in between. It’s so versatile even with just the one pickup.

1995 Stingray 5

I got this used a few years back for 1500 bucks. Worth every single penny! Without a doubt the most high quality instrument I've ever played Every single thing from fretwork to the paintjob is just simply perfect. It's really heavy though, but aren't these all? It had an absolutely disgusting black pearl aftermarket pickguard, that I finally got around to replacing with what it would've originally had.

Also I'm in the minority of people who like the middle setting on the 3 way switch the best!
