Hello,
I am trying to understand the Stingray 5 Preamp and wiring.
I've drawn out a few diagrams to try and help myself...
But I'm struggling...
With the switch, I'm assuming the top and bottom, left and right terminals are common, with there being 3 lugs for each.
I'm assuming this is how Parallel, Series with filter and Series are achieved via capacitors and resistors between the coil 1 finish and coil 2 start.. (black and white)..
I'm guessing there might be a resistor for full series to drop to volume.. not sure. Head starting to hurt a bit plotting it all out!
It looks like hot goes into yellow, into the preamp and I'm guessing black into B is a ground?
After this, I'm completely stuck..
Bottom left of the switch, grey is common going to the preamp, then blue, orange, and brown... I haven't got a clue what these are doing? Switching between different resistors on the PCB for volume matching perhaps? Ugh..
If anyone can make sense of it I'd really appreciate it - reason being, I'm installing a second pickup alongside this one, and I want to work out how I can get into the preamp input..
This will be achieved via a blend pot or a switch.
I'm also concerned about insertion loss... I'm considering an EMG ABC, but I have no idea of sending in low impedance would screw up the sound...
Any support from tech heads would be more than appreciated!
